Three laborers have died due to a fierce fire in a godown in Pune. This godown is located next to an LPG gas cylinder godown, where more than 400 LPG cylinders were kept. Thankfully, the cylinder was immediately removed from there, otherwise a horrific accident could have happened here and the situation was sure to go out of control.
Goods burnt to ashes
This incident of fire took place on Friday afternoon. The incident took place in Kavade Basti near Ubale Nagar area in Wagholi, on the outskirts of Pune city. Wedding decorations were kept in this godown. According to the fire department, 4 to 5 cylinders burst on the spot, after which the flames intensified. Wedding items and decorations, lighting items, wires, cushions and carpets were kept in the godown.
The intensity of the fire was so fierce that all the things kept in it were burnt to ashes. There were about 400 cylinders in the gas cylinder godown nearby, which were removed before the fire spread around, otherwise the situation could have gone out of control.
People’s houses were evacuated
Immediately the people living nearby were safely evacuated and the entire area was evacuated. Firefighters took utmost care and sprayed water with water jets to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential buildings. PMRDA Fire Brigade and Pune Municipal Corporation doused the fire with the help of 45 firemen with 09 fire engines. 3 laborers have died while doing this.
At present, the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. The owner of this godown is absconding, the police is looking for him. Meanwhile, after extinguishing the fire, the firemen have run a cooling operation in the godown for a few hours.
