  1. I think it's important to bear in mind that a standard deviation is not an insignificant deviation from the mean.

Also, assuming that it's a normal distribution, this would mean that a person who is more attractive than 85% of their gender is only getting a wage bump of 3.6%…
Honestly, seems to be much less than I would have expected.

Edit: additionally, this wage benefit most likely also gets skewed due to industries where good looks are given priority

  2. Wage gap in modeling is mostly because female models earn the most from doing campaigns for brands like Maybelline, Loreal, etc or in the past if they were VS angels. Runway modeling and photoshoots don't get you lots of money, and male models don't have those brands to do campagins for. They could earn money for shampoo or deodorands commercials, but they usually hire celebrities (often athlets) to do that.

  3. Tbh, in the company I work at, the bosses are fat, and average looking. Sure there are slightly better looking ones (not by much), but they're all paid to the level of their seniority and experience, not based on looks.

  4. I am an extremely attractive man. It does not get you girls. Females are attracted by money. Shown with brain Imaging in neuroscience

  5. Damn so 64% of the population is 1 SD from the mean, which means 64% of people are in a range of 3.5 to 6.5 in terms of looks. That's brutal

  6. It seems only American people deny this but European people don't because they are not fat in most cases and take care of themselves.Russia and Serbia, even Romania, Hungary, Slovenia are all countries where average person is if not model than skinny, well groomed and tall and in my country, Serbia, we are not afraid to flaunt it.

  7. I was pretty good looking all my life. I lost one of my teeth in an accident which led to bone dissolving and change in the shape of my lower jaw.

I look weird now and I'm finding it the hard way how society treats average/ugly people. So I often wear a mask outside.

  8. 3.6% wage increase for a 1SD increase over a normal distribution is actually a pretty small gap. There is also heterogeneity in the beauty gap by industry. So if industries where beauty is clearly advantageous have a larger gap (e.g. modelling), then most industries have even less of a beauty gap than 3.6%.
