Losers: Aston Martin
This was a brutal weekend for Aston Martin. Their mechanics were faced with this after Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso crashed in qualifying, but they did an incredible job to have both cars ready for the race just a few hours later.
However, Stroll couldn’t even make the start after spinning on the formation lap (he said after the race that it felt like brake failure) and while trying to recover, the car became stranded in the gravel.
Alonso spent most of the race in the points, but said he had a brake issue after the restart and then spun outside the top 10. The Spaniard reported a lot of back discomfort, courtesy of the car bouncing significantly , and he limped. on the other side of line 14.
Winners: Alpine
Alpine had not completed a single top-five lap the entire season leading up to Brazil, but that all changed at Interlagos as they took advantage of the wet conditions to seal a remarkable double podium finish.
Esteban Ocon led briefly before taking second, one place ahead of Pierre Gasly, who was contesting his 150th Grand Prix weekend.
