About 80 robberies a day were closed last year without a suspect being identified, Liberal Democrats have said.
The party said it had commissioned research showing that 30,000 muggings would go unsolved by 2022 in England and Wales.
He accused the Minister of the Interior brave sole of being “entangled in endless scandals” while violent criminals are “freed”.
Research from the House of Commons Library shows that more than one in two burglary reports (54%) went unresolved, the liberal democrats saying.
Less than one in 12 (8%) led to a suspect being charged, according to the party.
These shocking figures show that mugging is effectively being decriminalized, with far too many violent criminals being let off the hook.
The figures include cases of theft of personal property that involve violence or threats to the victim.
West Midlands Police were the worst-performing force, with just 4% of reported robberies in 2022 leading to a suspect being charged, the Lib Dems said.
It was closely followed by Northamptonshire (5%), Avon and Somerset (6%) and Hampshire (6%), according to the research.
Lib Dem Treasury spokeswoman Sarah Olney MP, who commissioned the investigation, said: “These shocking figures show that muggings are being effectively decriminalized, with far too many violent criminals being released.
“People feel unsafe walking their own local streets, because this Conservative Government he has cut neighborhood watch to the bone.
“Victims of crime are being left behind while Interior Minister Suella Braverman is embroiled in endless scandals.”
Ms Braverman was cleared without an independent investigation by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last week over allegations that she breached the ministerial code.
He was found to have violated the code last year by sending an official document from a personal email account.
Sunak has said he did not let the interior minister, an influential figure on the party’s right, “get off the hook” after she asked officials if she could attend a private speed awareness course after a speeding violation.
Both the Liberal Democrats and Labor have called for a return to “community policing” with a focus on officers who know the neighborhood well.
The government has said it has the police under control, with recent figures showing it has met its stated commitment to recruit 20,000 new officers by March 2023.
A Home Office spokesman said: “Heist it is an invasive and disturbing crime for victims and we expect the police to take all incidents seriously.
“We are providing the police with the resources they need, having met our commitment to recruit an additional 20,000 police officers by March 2023, the highest level ever achieved.
“We are also supporting the police by providing funds for crime prevention measures, including better street lighting and CCTV, and by equipping the police with better technology to aid their investigations and catch more criminals.”
A Conservative spokesman said: “The Lib Dems are proving once again that they are the best hypocrites in British politics.
“If they really cared about cracking down on crime, they would have supported our legislation that gives police the powers they need to clamp down on criminals.
“The Conservatives have recruited over 20,000 more police officers since 2019, and we are making sure they have the tools they need to see justice done and protect victims.”
