A beach hut looks set to become the most expensive ever sold in Wales as it comes on the market with an asking price of £250,000.

The double fronted cottage is located on the main beach in the seaside village of Abersoch, Gwynedd.

If sold, it will beat previous price tags on the same beach in recent years, with one on the market for £200,000 in 2022.

But the cottage is now valued at £50,000 more than the median house price in the county, which was £198,500 in March, according to official data.

It also exceeds the median house price across Wales, which according to the UK House Price Indexit was £214,000 in March.

The cottage is a stone’s throw from the sea and the nearby yacht club.

For your money, you get a 26 ft by 10 ft (8 m by 3 m) building, with very few frills.

The cabins on the beach are not connected to the water network and overnight stays are strictly prohibited.

But you’ll still have to pay council tax on your new property, which is estimated at nearly £800 this year.

Visitors on the beach said the sale price was “stunning.”

Heather and Alan Jenkins said the asking price was “outrageous”

“You could get a house, land and all that goes with that money,” said Alan and Heather Jenkins, from Mold, Flintshire.

“It’s outrageous. Who are these people? It’s crazy,” said the couple, who were vacationing in the area.

“These are just wooden sheds.”

The rules mean that it is forbidden to spend the night in the beach huts

Grace Earnshaw, from Wilmslow in Cheshire, who was enjoying a day at the beach with her two young daughters, said the price “doesn’t surprise me”.

She added: “It’s in a good location. It’s probably going to cost a lot more than that.”

Grace Earnshaw said it felt like she was holidaying abroad in the Abersoch sun, so the £250,000 price tag for the beach hut came as no surprise.

Selling beach huts has angered Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd Mabon ap Gwynfor, who said it was a “disgraceful situation when someone can sell a shed for a quarter of a million pounds”.

“It’s a perfect example of the property market letting Wales down if a shed sells for that price.

“Young people have absolutely no chance of getting housing in their own communities.”

The cabin will be sold by people who submit offers before the deadline at the end of June.
