Agents Do Charity – hitting new heights…


The 24 mile, 24 hour challenge covers the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, with the group undertaking the hike to raise awareness and funds to support Crohn’s & Colitis UK. The charity provides advice and support to those affected by these inflammatory bowel diseases, which affects thousands of people across the UK.


Pam Brown, managing partner at Pam Brown Mortgages, is an active voice for Crohn’s and Colitis within the mortgage industry, having campaigned to raise further awareness about the condition following the diagnosis of her son, Joe aged 13.


In 2022, Pam and her team raised an impressive £22,000 for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, and were invited to the House of Lords in recognition of their efforts. This year, Pam was joined on the hike by Joe and her daughter, Nina – both of whom work closely alongside their mother as advisers within her mortgage business.


“We’re so proud to have taken on the Three Peaks Challenge and to have exceeded our fundraising target,” she said.


“Every single day, someone messages me about Crohn’s disease, and we undertook this hike to help people realise how devastating and debilitating this disease is and how it affects your entire life.


“Knowing that we have paid someone’s wage to pick up the Crohn’s & Colitis UK helpline, to help research and find a cure, and to give advice to people who need support, makes it all worth it. We hope that our efforts will inspire others across the mortgage industry to get involved and raise vital funds.”


“We were honoured to participate in the Three Peaks Challenge alongside some fantastic professionals across the mortgage industry,” added Gordon Henderson, recruitment director at the Mortgage Advice Bureau.

Quickmove Properties: Three members of the team from park home selling specialists Quickmove Properties, will be taking to the skies over Wiltshire this Sunday to complete a 15,000ft skydive in aid of the charity Alzheimer’s Support.


This latest daring endeavour is just one of a number of charity events organised by Quickmove Properties, with the team also embarking on the Quickmove Walk to Remember in June, which will see them take on a half marathon hike over the course of the day. 


While the Walk to Remember promises to be a test of endurance, this weekend’s event is set to be a slightly more high octane affair, with the fundraisers plummeting from a plane over the Wiltshire countryside, free falling for 60 seconds at an eye watering speed of 125mph. 


When their parachutes do (hopefully) open, they will be rewarded with a spectacular bird’s eye view of the county as they make their way back down to solid ground. 


The event is being facilitated by GoSkydive, one of the UK’s leading skydive companies who specialise in first-time tandem skydives. 


Each member of the Quickmove Properties team has set their sights on raising a minimum of £425 for the skydive, with the total funds raised currently sitting at £2,954 including Gift Aid.

Portsmouth Property Association:  Training exploits by Michael ‘Eddie the Eagle’ Edwards, in the run-up to his famous appearances in the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, Canada, brought the house down at this year’s Portsmouth Property Association’s charity dinner.


The first British ski jumper since before World War Two, famously finishing last in both the 90m and 70m events and inspiring a hit movie, pacy regaling of his underdog stories at the Olympics boosted charities in the Portsmouth region.


“If you have a dream, go for it,” guest speaker Michael told scores of cheering guests at the black-tie event at the city’s Royal Maritime Club. “Don’t let anything stop you.”


Such was his commitment to the sport, which saw him break the British record with a 71m jump at Calagary, Michael holed up in a psychiatric hospital because he had no money for accommodation – or for a decent ski helmet.


“With the string breaking mid-flight, my helmet started to fall off,” recalled Michael. “The Austrian ski jumping team took pity on me and gave me one of theirs.”


A total of £6,600 was raised on the night, with donations from auctioned lots and raffle prizes going to four charities adopted by PPA chairman Iain Morrison.


They are Portsmouth Foodbank, youth charity Motiv8, Portsmouth Counselling Service Children and Young People and Home-Start Portsmouth, a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age.


Iain said: “These are great causes which make a positive difference to many local lives – PPA is proud to support them.”


As is customary with the PPA, a donation was made from funds to the Lord Mayor’s charities Aurora New Dawn, Honor Waite Charity and Portsmouth Hospitals Charity.


Iain, commercial manager at commercial insurance brokers Finch, added: “The annual charity dinner is one of the highlights of the PPA calendar – it was lovely to see new and familiar faces following the event’s three-year break due to the pandemic. Our guest speaker embodied resilience – a quality shown by PPA members during difficult times for the UK.”


PPA confirmed the next annual charity dinner takes place on Friday, 23 February 2024.


Destin4 was the main event sponsor, HW Conveyancing Searches sponsored the welcome drinks and Flude the PPA Charities table.


Clive Emson, chairman of Clive Emson Auctioneers, conducted the auction which included a signed framed poster from the 2016 blockbuster Eddie the Eagle, starring Taron Edgerton and Hugh Jackman.


Formed in 1920, the PPA brings together estate agents, surveyors, lawyers, brokers, architects and other professional advisers into a collective voice to drive the economic prosperity of the Portsmouth region.

Property professionals pick a one-hour timeslot to complete any activity of your choice such as running or dancing, before passing the virtual baton to the next person. 


Participants are asked to aim to fundraise or donate £50 for Mindstep on the Just Giving page, but you can raise as much or as little as you like.
