Wedding Industry Bouncing Back: Tips to Plan, Save Money, and Avoid Scams

Weddings are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, despite the current state of the economy, and most couples getting married in 2023 are not planning to cut back on their wedding budget, according to a new study. Meredith Radford, of the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina, advises that couples can save money by planning ahead, researching companies for vendors, venue, band or DJ, and being flexible about the date of the wedding. Rental scams can be a big problem during the wedding season, especially online, so couples should make sure to use reputable websites that are secure and have good reviews before booking.

Tips to Plan Ahead and Save Money

Planning a wedding can be expensive and stressful, but with some foresight and savvy planning, couples can save money and avoid scams. One of the best ways to save money is to plan ahead and research companies before choosing vendors, venues, bands, or DJs. Couples should start planning early and keep in touch with vendors periodically before their wedding date. Being flexible about the date also helps couples save money, as they may end up paying more if they have a specific date in mind.

Booking through reputable websites that are secure and have good reviews is another way to avoid rental scams. Rental scams can be a big problem, especially during the wedding season, and some people end up not getting what they paid for. Before booking a vendor or venue, couples should make sure to read reviews and ask for references.

Another way to save money is to DIY some aspects of the wedding, such as centerpieces, party favors, or invitations. DIY projects can save couples hundreds to thousands of dollars, and they can also add a personal touch to the wedding.

Tips to Avoid Scams and Red Flags

Wedding rental scams can be categorized as an advance fee fraud, where the vendor or seller requires a pre-payment before delivering the product or service. Rental scams can include misrepresentation of the rental item’s condition, non-delivery of the item, or cancellation of the rental contract at the last minute. To avoid rental scams, couples should choose a reputable rental company and ask for references. They should also read reviews and check the company’s Better Business Bureau rating.

Another red flag is if the vendor or seller refuses to communicate by phone, email, or in person. Some vendors may only communicate by text or email, which can be a sign of a scam. Couples should also be cautious when dealing with vendors who pressure them to sign a contract immediately or who offer a deep discount if they pay in full upfront.

Additional Piece

The wedding industry is expected to bounce back in 2023, with more couples planning to tie the knot despite the ongoing pandemic. According to a study, most couples getting married in 2023 are not planning to cut back on their wedding budget, indicating a growing confidence in the economy and a desire to celebrate love and commitment. However, planning a wedding during these times can be challenging, as couples have to navigate various restrictions, health protocols, and logistical issues.

One trend that has emerged in the wedding industry is the rise of micro-weddings and elopements, where couples opt for smaller, more intimate ceremonies instead of big, lavish ones. Micro-weddings offer many benefits, including cost savings, less stress, and more personalized experiences. They also offer a chance for couples to focus on the essence of their relationship and create meaningful memories with their loved ones.

Another trend is the use of technology in weddings, such as live-streaming, virtual dance parties, and online gift registries. Technology has enabled couples to connect with their guests in new and creative ways, especially if they have to limit the number of attendees due to health protocols. Virtual weddings and receptions can also be more eco-friendly, as they reduce the need for travel and paper invitations.

In conclusion, the wedding industry is adapting to the new normal, and there are many ways for couples to plan a beautiful and memorable wedding without breaking the bank. By being savvy, flexible, and creative, couples can avoid scams, save money, and have fun while celebrating their love.

RALEIGH, NC – Pack your dancing shoes! Marriages should return to pre-pandemic levels, according to Business thread.

What you need to know

  • Marriages are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, according to a new study
  • Despite the current state of the economy, the study Says most couples getting married in 2023 make no changes to their original budgets (70%)
  • Meredith Radford of the Better Business Bureau provides tips for couples to plan, save money and avoid the biggest wedding scam

Despite tough economic times, the study says most couples aren’t planning to cut back on their wedding budget.

Meredith Radford with the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina states that mode no. 1 where couples can save money is planning.

“Make sure you start planning ahead and that way you’ll have time to research companies for things like your vendors, your venue, band or a DJ…” Radford said. “All those things that you want to make sure you have plenty of time and look into more options.”

The other way to save money is to be flexible about the date of the big day.

“Some people have thought for years and years about exactly when they want to get married, but that’s another reason why you really want to start early and not necessarily be tied to a certain date because you don’t want to get stuck in a place where you end up to not be satisfied because you went with the first one you found,” Radford said.

She recommends keeping in touch with vendors periodically before your wedding date.

As for scams or red flags, Radford says rental scams can be a big problem with weddings.

“During wedding season, rental scams are always a problem, especially things booked online,” Radford said. “So, you always want to make sure you’re using reputable websites that you can trust that have that https or secure in their URL.”

Overall, before booking, she recommends making sure the seller has good reviews and that you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Once everything is settled, sit back and enjoy wedded bliss. Congratulations!
