You mentioned Clint Eastwood. He’s the first guy I remember who would have one-liners in an action movie. That became a thing. you were known for. The guy came around the corner and I stuck the knife in his chest up to the post and I said, “Stay.”

When did you realize that kind of line was magical for you? First of all, it comes from my sense of humor.

So you came up with those lines? No. In the 80s I was what in German they call a lehrling, An apprentice. I was apprenticed to Milton Berle. I said, “Look, I love humor and I know it’s very difficult for Germans or Austrians to have an American sense of humor. You have to help me”. He says, “That Nazi! Do I have to train him? [Expletive] This one.” He complained and called me names. But anyway, he loved me. He was there at my engagement party. He was there at my wedding. He was always there, no matter what I did.

Did he teach you to be funny? Not to be funny, but to write lines for myself because I had it in me. He had a sense of humor, but needed help with writing. So every time I was going to give a speech, I would start with the funny lines that he would write. Most of my stuff in the ’80s and ’90s, wrote Milton Berle. He would get an award somewhere: “Wow, this is amazing. The box office is now driven by intellectual property and franchises. There are very few movie stars left who can, on their own name, reliably open a film like before. Do you think the era of movie stars is gone and won’t come back? I don’t know. I’m not a fortune teller. She was talking to someone from Mattel the other day. This is all good. That’s why I say: let them be what they are. The bottom line is that I never complained about Hollywood, the way they are pushing certain things. Sometimes the Academy Awards are like, “Look how good we are.” It drives me crazy. But he hasn’t hurt anyone. So, yeah, the right always gets rid of it. The left wing turns into the right wing, the right wing turns into the left wing. It’s funny to me, because I’m somewhere in between.

My question was whether he still feels at home in the Republican Party. It doesn’t matter. There was rarely someone like me in bodybuilding, very rarely someone like me in acting and very rarely in politics. It’s me. I just think it’s important to listen. I encourage you to listen to the polls and do your best to be a public servant and not a party server.

But making decisions based solely on polls is what causes politicians to say that January 6 was overblown or that Trump won the 2020 election. If politicians are not comfortable with the truth, it is nothing unusual. These guys can lie better than anyone. Some people do it to get re-elected. That’s why they will say: “Yes, this election was rigged.” If you put them on the lie detector, I guarantee it will be a different story. But that’s okay. They have to play their schmah in his game, and that doesn’t mean he has to accept this whole thing.
