The 2024 Lexus TX has finally made its debut, and it looks like the automaker is getting serious about competing in the crowded three-row SUV segment. As the first US-built Lexus crossover with three full rows of seats, the TX is expected to make a big splash this fall. The 2024 Lexus TX will come with three powertrain options, including a turbo-4, a hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. Meanwhile, the TX 500h combines the turbo-4 with two electric motors and a 6-speed automatic transmission for a combined 366 hp and 409 lb-ft. The most powerful and efficient model is the Lexus TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid, which pairs a 3.5-liter V-6 with three electric motors for a combined output of 406 hp.
Compared to the Toyota Highlander, the Lexus TX offers a more refined and upscale design with a toned-down grille, a strong beltline, and a full-width LED taillight. Inside, the TX boasts an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14.0-inch tilted touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the TX has seven charging ports and three power outlets, providing plenty of energy for the whole family.
Seating and Cargo Space
Each Lexus TX features three full rows of seats with seating for six or seven passengers depending on the configuration. Unlike the Highlander, the TX offers an available center console that can be removed for easy access to the third row. Moreover, the third-row seat is adult-sized and can be folded down to expand cargo space to 57.4 cubic feet. With the second and third rows folded down, there’s 97 cubic feet of space available for hauling, which is comparable to the Explorer.
Safety and Technology Features
The Lexus TX is jam-packed with standard and optional safety features, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and active lane control. A surround view camera system will also be available to provide additional visibility for tricky maneuvers. On top of that, the TX offers plenty of technology features such as wireless charging, a heads-up display, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
Compared to the Explorer, the Lexus TX offers similar safety and technology features, but with a more luxurious and upscale feel. The Explorer has standard Co-Pilot360, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert, but can upgrade to the Co-Pilot360+ package to add adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and voice-activated navigation. The Explorer also offers plenty of technology features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a Bang and Olufsen sound system.

Lexus is finally ready to get serious about hauling the family in a roomy seven-seat crossover SUV.
On Thursday, the 2024 Lexus TX debuted as the automaker’s first US-built crossover SUV with three full rows of seats, three powertrains and a toned-down design.
When the base model and hybrid model arrive this fall, the TX will mark the first three-row Lexus SUV not to ride on a body-on-frame truck chassis. Lexus TX chief engineer Naohisa Hatta told Motor Authority that the TX was intentionally developed for American families. The plug-in hybrid will arrive later at an unspecified date.

Lexus TX buyers will be faced with three powertrain options: a turbo-4, a hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid.
The TX 350 will be powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine rated at 275 hp and 317 pound-feet of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties and front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive will be available. Lexus estimates that the turbo-4 will have an EPA combined fuel economy rating of 21 mpg.
Buyers looking for more power and efficiency will opt for the TX 500h that combines the turbo-4 with two electric motors and a 6-speed automatic transmission for a combined 366 hp and 409 lb-ft. Lexus estimates a combined fuel economy rating of 24 mpg. All-wheel drive and adaptive dampers are standard, as is Lexus’ rear-wheel-steer system that will virtually shrink the TX’s wheelbase around corners.
The most powerful and efficient model will be the Lexus TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid. A 3.5-liter V-6 is paired with three electric motors for a combined output of 406 hp, though Lexus has yet to release a torque rating. It is expected to have an electric driving range of 33 miles and an EPA combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg. All-wheel drive will be standard.

Each Lexus TX will have three rows with seating for either six or seven passengers, depending on configuration. The 60/40 split second-row bench seat could be upgraded to two captain’s chairs. An available center console can be chosen with captain’s chairs for additional storage or removed for easy access to the third row. Based on the related 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, that third-row seat will be adult-sized. This Lexus will be as capable of hauling cargo as humans with 20.1 cubic feet of space behind the third row. Folding the third row expands cargo space to 57.4 cubic feet, and with the second and third rows folded, there’s 97 cubic feet of space for hauling.

The interior design looks like a larger version of what’s found in the smaller NX and RX crossovers. An 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.0-inch touchscreen will be standard with the latter tilted toward the driver. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a head-up display will be available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard. The family will be able to power up with seven charging ports and three power outlets, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system will be available.
Lexus toned down the elongated grille in the name of aerodynamics, Hatta told the Motor Authority. This latest version of the Lexus grille gives the front a design that borders on the anonymous. The sides feature a strong beltline that leads to the rear as a wider version of the RX with a full-width LED taillight.
