Brave has just announced that it now exclusively uses its own index for your browser. In other words, you are no longer dependent on third-party solutions like Bing.
When the company launched Brave Quest in 2021, mentioned that they trusted other providers for almost 13% of their inquiries. A year later, that number dropped to 7%.
“By default, Brave Search users will now receive 100% of Brave Index results, giving users fully independent results. As always, our results will preserve user privacy,” Brave said in a blog post.
The company said that things like web discovery project — which allows people who use the Brave web browser to contribute anonymous data to build the Brave index — helped him move toward self-sufficiency. Additionally, Brave was concerned about the future of the Bing API, especially after Microsoft strengthened its partnership with OpenAI and announced a significant API price increase for the Bing Index.
The company noted that users will still be able to use Alternative Google Mix – a feature that allows users to privately query Google in case Brave Search has no answers.
In addition to this, Brave announced its own search API, but said that details about this program will be revealed in the future.
Brave is trying to use fewer solutions released by big tech companies to differentiate itself. In March, the company launched a summary function that was not powered by OpenAI technology.
By comparison, some of Brave’s competitors like duck duck to win and Neeva they still trust sources like Bing. Although the latter already plans to ditch Bing in a few years.
