The program has a total of $300,000 in funding, with $255,000 being awarded to 17 local businesses. Start-up businesses will receive a minimum of 50% of the total grant funds. CATSKILL: Greene County Economic Development Corporation CEO James Hannahs said all existing and new local Greene County small businesses that employ five or fewer workers are eligible for grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.
Grant funds may be spent exclusively for approved purposes, including expansion projects involving inventory, technology, logistics, and equipment, and operational uses. Construction expenses do not qualify.
Hannahs said $255,000 of the funds will be enough to award grants to 17 businesses. A minimum of 50% of the grant funds will be awarded to start-up businesses, which are defined in the program as businesses that are less than six months old at the time of application.
Qualifying businesses must show that they have created at least one job, which they made available to people in low- and moderate-income households. “Available” means that the position must not require any special skills and only a high school diploma. The position must also be advertised fairly.
“The whole premise of having this program is job creation,” Hannahs told the Greene County Legislature at their May meeting. She added that the grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Anyone who has eligible expenses and shows qualifying job creation, bring all the required documentation and show it will be awarded the grant,” Hannahs said. “Those are not small tasks.”
By applying for the program in January, the Greene County Economic Development Corporation secured a total of $300,000 in funding for the program by applying for MULTI (Money for Utilities, Logistics, Technology and Inventory) grants, which are awarded through the New York State Office of Community Renewal.
Businesses interested in applying for MULTI Grant funds will need to participate in business training to receive funding. Applicants are encouraged to participate in these programs prior to submitting the completed application.
