King Charles has stressed the need for tolerance and understanding – “even in the most fractious of times” in a keynote speech celebrating British values with his wife Queen Camilla by his side.
He warned that “the temptation to turn ourselves into a shouting or recriminatory society must be resisted” as he asked people on both sides of the fiery debate to be “passionate, but not pugnacious”.
It comes amid heightened tensions over the Middle East after Hamas terrorists’ brutal assault on Israel which has resulted in a number of retaliatory attacks.
Charles and Camilla arrived at Mansion House at around 8pm tonight for the traditional reception and dinner to recognise the work of the City of London civic institutions and Livery Companies – the financial district’s ancient and modern trade guilds.

Prince Andrew was forced to step down as a working royal following his Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis in 2019.
He was stripped of his patronages and now lives at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

Prince William has reached out to the Jewish community with a letter to the UK’s Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis.
He sent the letter on October 10, just before he and Princess Kate issued an official statement condemning the Hamas attacks on Israel.
William told Sir Ephraim that it was “truly a traumatic time for the Jewish community.”
