Bridgend school closures as a result of Storm Darragh – severe weather update

Some local schools which have incurred storm damage or are still experiencing power failure as a result of Storm Darragh have temporary arrangements in place for Monday 9 December.

These include Porthcawl Comprehensive, which will only be open to Years 10–13, and Betws Primary, Ysgol Gymraeg Calon y Cymoedd and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd, which will be closed all day to all pupils.

Parents and carers are being contacted by affected schools directly with more details, and you can also keep an eye on the school closures page of the council website for updates from headteachers: https://www.bridgend.gov.uk/…/planned-school-closures/

Utility companies have advised that they are working to re-establish power supplies to homes – you can check progress and keep up to date with this by viewing a virtual map at https://powercuts.nationalgrid.co.uk/power-cut-map/ – while anyone who requires priority assistance can call 0800 6783105.

Many properties and roads have been damaged by the storm, and delays to road, rail, air, ferry, bus and train journeys should all be expected.

Across Bridgend County Borough, work is continuing to clear any remaining storm debris or fallen trees, and council crews are ensuring that the main highways network remains clear and usable.

All community recycling centres which had to temporarily close during the storm will reopen as normal on Monday 8 December.
