Bury St Edmunds-based AWM Ltd has won Small Business of the Year at the Bury Free Press West Suffolk Business Awards 2024.

A family business selling its innovative, quality products to a growing international market has won Small Business of the Year at the West Suffolk Business Awards 2024.

AWM Ltd, based in Bury St Edmunds, was awarded the title at the Bury Free Press West Suffolk Business Awards on 11 October.

The company designs, manufactures and supports weighing solutions for all types of industries, from concrete batching plants and NHS hospitals to multinationals such as Rolls Royce, Kraft, British Sugar and Catlin Holdings.

It focuses on supplying and supporting industries in the UK and around the world.

AWM Ltd, founded in 1979 by Brian Spink, has a strong focus on quality, innovation and community involvement.

It has tripled its staff and achieved record sales while fostering local partnerships and investing in sustainable practices to improve its market position.

For the Company of the Year (Small) category, judges were looking for an outstanding company whose growth, ambition and quality of management have allowed it to outperform its peers in a range of areas including financial wellbeing, business strategy, diversity and inclusion. , people development and community participation.

The category was open to entries from businesses with fewer than 10 employees and sponsored by the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has a vibrant business membership with businesses ranging from tourism and horse racing to manufacturing, renewable energy, technology and the burgeoning life sciences sectors on the Cambridgeshire border.

The Chamber has provided unwavering support for the success of businesses in Suffolk and the region’s thriving economy since 1884. This year it celebrated its 140th anniversary.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is the county’s largest independent business forum.

The Bury Free Press West Suffolk Business Awards are in their 13th year and have become one of the biggest events in the business calendar.
