PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Destino Panama City is working to help grow and transform the community.
Tourism is an important industry in our area and those who visit impact all businesses, even small ones.
Tourism leaders said 38% of visitors spend money at local small businesses. Staff want to make sure small businesses continue to thrive. Now they hope to add new restaurants and stores.
Destination Panama City said it was created by referendum in 2014, at a time when the city was not growing. Since then, things have changed.
“One of our jobs was to really change that and make Panama City a source of pride for our residents for visitors to do,” said Jennifer Vigil, president and CEO of Destination Panama City. “Today we hear people say that it is vibrant, that it is growing, that they are proud of the community.”
Destination Panama City continues to work on the living shoreline project and the St. Andrews Historic School, hoping to grow the area even more in the future.
