Title: Building Resilience in Churches and Communities

The United Reformed Church (URC) has announced several workshops and webinars that aim to help people build resilience in themselves, their churches, and their communities. With events starting from June 15th until July 6th, the URC Training, a collaboration between Children’s and Youth Work and Education and Learning, will bring you a series of three free webinars, tackling resilience in churches and communities. Furthermore, the URC will host Glorious Grandparenting on June 15th to June 19th, an online workshop offered to grandparents to help them enrich their relationships with their grandchildren. Additionally, June 19th to June 25th is Refugee Week, the week to celebrate compassion in action. The URC invites everyone to join them in celebrating this meaningful occasion. Here’s a brief overview of each event:

Building Resilience in Churches: Exploring Resilience for Churches, a Three-Part Webinar Series

The first of the URC Training’s webinars, Self-care and Resilience, on June 22nd at 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm, will focus on personal resilience and self-care. Our world is changing every day, and as we adapt and endure, we must explore what resilience means for us as individuals. This session will be led by the Revd Dr Adam Scott, Principal of Northern College, Manchester.

The second session, Resilience and Community Care, will be led by Dr. Scott on June 29th at 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm. This session will tackle community resilience, its significance, and how to help everyone flourish in times of change.

Enabling Resilience, to be held on July 6th at 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm, is the third and final session of the series. Led by the Revd Dr. Alex Clare-Young, this session focuses on practical actions that enable resilience and flourishing in church buildings, communal spaces, and gatherings. Dr. Young is an ordained URC minister working in a pioneer role with Downing Place Church in Cambridge City Centre.

The Glorious Grandparenting Online Workshop

June 15th to June 19th is the time for grandparents to learn how to enrich relationships with children of all ages, share their faith, overcome barriers, and celebrate the challenges and blessings. This free online workshop is tailored for grandparents who want to make the most of the joyous and sometimes challenging grandparenting years. Join the URC and let your journey with grandchildren commence.

Celebrating Compassion in Action: Refugee Week

Refugee Week turns 25 years old this June 19th to June 25th. In celebration of this meaningful occasion, the charity invites everyone to celebrate what compassion looks like in action. Celebrate with the URC by volunteering for events, joining their online campaigns, or simply learning more about how you can help refugees.

Talking about Resources: An Upcoming Webinar

Richard Knott, Children and Youth Development Officer for East Midlands Synod, will be sharing his expertise on how to obtain the best resources when working with children and young people. The webinar, Talking About Resources, takes place on June 22nd from 7 pm to 8 pm.

A round-up of what’s on in and around the United Reformed Church (URC) from 15 June – 6 July.

URC Training, a collaboration between Children’s and Youth Work and Education and Learning, bring you ‘Exploring resilience for churches’ a series of three, free webinars.

22 June from 7.15-8.45pm – Self-care and resilience,

Led by the Revd Dr Adam Scott, Principal of Northern College, Manchester, this first session in the series will focus on personal resilience or self-care.

Resilience is a word we use a lot, especially recently, and Adam will help us explore what it means for us as individuals in the world we live in as we adapt and endure through times of change.

29 June from 7.15-8.45pm Resilience and community care

Led by Dr Scott, the second session in the series will focus on community resilience or community care. We can be adaptable and have worked on our own resilience, but our external environment affects us each day.

Adam will help us explore what community resilience is, how important it is and how change can help us all flourish.
6 July from 7.15-8.45pm Enabling resilience (making safe spaces)

Led by the Revd Dr Alex Clare-Young, an ordained URC Minister working in a Pioneer role with Downing Place Church in Cambridge City Centre and is an Associate Tutor at Westminster College, Cambridge.

This session will focus on practical things we can do/offer/give access to in church buildings, gatherings and community spaces. Alex will encourage thinking around how we navigate space and self in relation to enabling resilience and flourishing.

Northern College in Manchester and Westminster College in Cambridge are two of the three URC Resource Centres for Learning that offer learning and training opportunities.

 15-19 June – Glorious Grandparenting

Calling all grandparents! Fun, challenging, inspiring, and exhausting, the grandparenting years can mark a glorious time with our younger generations.

Free online workshops are being in June for grandparents to learn how to enrich relationships with children of all ages, share their faith, overcome barriers, and celebrate the challenges and blessings. Find more information or book here.

19-25 June – Refugee Week

This year is Refugee Week’s 25th anniversary and the charity is inviting everyone to celebrate what compassion looks like in action. The week takes place from 19-25 June. For free resources and to find out how you can get involved, read more.

22 June from 7-8pm – ‘Talking about… Resources’
