Experience the Parisian Hotspot at the Newly Renovated Hôtel Rochechouart
Located in the bustling Pigalle area just off the busy Boulevard de Clichy and near the foot of Montmartre, the newly renovated Hôtel Rochechouart is now a popular Parisian hotspot. With its plush velvet sofas fringed by palm trees, dinner in a brasserie, and a basement nightclub, you can easily spend the entire evening within the hotel’s walls.
A Lovingly Renovated Art Deco Building
Originally a hotel since 1929, the eight-story Hôtel Rochechouart has been lovingly renovated by Parisian interior designers Festen, with many Art Deco features still intact. The walls are painted in a nocturnal palette of dark terracotta, bronze, and green with parquet and marble throughout. The small, clunky elevator adds to the charm, and the rooms are compact yet cozy, in keeping with Parisian tradition.
The rooms offer breathtaking views of the Sacré-Coeur, and the beautifully tiled bathrooms offer added elegance. The rooftop bar on the top floor is small yet promising for warmer months. With few extras, the hotel’s views make up for it, and the location is a dream for those hoping to explore Montmartre.
Dining at the Downstairs Restaurant
The downstairs restaurant at the hotel is a geometric mix of alcoves and banquettes, enhanced by gorgeous blue and gold mosaic floors. The original etched menu boards on the wall add to the old school ambiance, with items ranging from soup à l’oignon to eau de vie and calvados and chocolate liegeois. The restaurant’s highlights include frog legs and a perfectly cooked beef tenderloin with chips, followed by an airy floating island for the perfect finish.
A Parisian Nightclub in the Basement
The Mikado Club downstairs is a destination in its own right and a fitting extension of the hotel’s Parisian experience. Many celebrities hung out there in its heyday, such as Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, and Johnny Hallyday, to name just a few. The hotel’s guests are encouraged to stop by and enjoy the Parisian nightlife.

Located just off the busy Boulevard de Clichy in Pigalle, and a stone’s throw from the foot of Montmartre, this newly renovated hotel is now a Parisian hotspot, even in an area known for its nightlife. There aren’t many places where you can go from sipping cocktails on plush velvet sofas fringed by palm trees to dinner in a brasserie to rival the best, then slipping down to the hotel’s basement nightclub. Since it was pelting with freezing rain on our brief visit, it was a very good thing that we didn’t need to leave the building.
The hotel is now part of Orso, a French group that owns seven properties in the capital, including the charming Hôtel Leopold in Montparnasse. Under Orso, this handsome eight-story building, a hotel since 1929, has been lovingly renovated by Parisian interior designers Festen, with many Art Deco features still intact. The walls are painted in a nocturnal palette of dark terracotta, bronze and green, with lots of parquet and marble throughout. There’s even a small, clunky elevator, which no hotel in Paris should be without.
Our cozy eaves suite had an amazing view of the Sacré-Coeur and a beautifully tiled bathroom. Rooms are compact, in keeping with Parisian tradition, with few extras (also a bit of tradition), but the views more than make up for it.
One floor up, a small rooftop bar looked promising for the warmer months and is surely in full swing by now.
Downstairs restaurantA destination unto itself, it is a perfectly geometric mix of alcoves and banquettes enhanced by gorgeous blue and gold mosaic floors. Original etched menu boards on the wall dating from a bygone brasserie era, with items ranging from eau de vie and calvados to chocolate liegeois through soup à l’oignonset the tone for today with determination old school menu.
We wrapped ourselves with frog legs and a very good beef tenderloin with chipsfollowed by an airy floating island. It’s hard not to overdo it here. If you’re dining Thursday through Saturday, choose something light so you don’t have to forego the delights of the Mikado club downstairs, which would be a shame given the list of Parisian celebrities who hung out there in its heyday. like Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, and Johnny Hallyday, to name just a few. I poked my head in at 10:30 p.m., but it was still too early to party in Pigalle.
