DVIDS – News – NAVFAC Small Business Professionals Participate in 19th Annual Hawaii Government Contracting Forum

HONOLULU – Representatives from Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Pacific and NAVFAC Hawaii’s Small Business Programs Office participated in the 19th Annual Hawaii Government Contracting Forum on Aug. 14 at the Honolulu Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The event, hosted by the Honolulu Minority Business Development Agency Center, is a pillar for small businesses in Hawaii and is designed to be inclusive and focus on contracting opportunities at the federal, state and municipal levels. Regardless of company size, the forum provided all attendees with valuable information on how to do business with various government agencies and commands.

“The pandemic changed our focus and expanded the scope of this event to encompass the entire public sector,” said Jayme Nagao, deputy director of NAVFAC Pacific’s Small Business Programs Office. “Our goal is to ensure Hawaii-based small businesses are informed, prepared and equipped to help NAVFAC meet its mission-critical requirements.”
Small business professionals from NAVFAC Pacific and Hawaii provided informative presentations that included an overview of their respective commands, highlighted future workload projections, and shared best practices for successful federal acquisition. Representatives also participated in one-on-one meetings with small businesses, offering them personalized advice and answering specific questions about the federal acquisition process.

“Overall, the event was a success and feedback from industry professionals was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the knowledge gained during our presentations and one-on-one sessions,” Nagao said.

The event also featured speakers from the Hawaii Small Business Development Center, APEX Accelerators, and the Pacific Veterans Business Outreach Center. Additionally, representatives from the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the Small Business Administration, the City and County of Honolulu Procurement Division, and the Hawaii State Procurement Office shared valuable information on local and state procurement opportunities.

“By connecting directly with these companies, we can better understand how they can help us meet our mission requirements and help them be better positioned to respond to future acquisitions as we anticipate an increase in workload in the Pacific,” Nagao said.
