Dyson says the 26 sensors guarantee obstacle avoidance, so that’s a promise you won’t get stuck on sofas or behind flower pots. We’ll see. Perhaps the new form factor helps, as this version is slimmer than the previous two, at just 99mm tall (the Heurist was 120mm).

The 360 Vis Nav can pinpoint your position to within 71mm, so that certainly leaves room for error. The accompanying app allows you to pre-map dusty hot spots, automatically increasing suction power when needed. It’s also pet friendly, with HEPA filtration and a quiet mode.

Dyson seems particularly pleased with the 360 Vis Nav’s edge-cleaning (another feature that older models boasted about), saying its sensors now sense the sides of a room and then redirect suction via a new side actuator on instead of using brooms to remove dirt.

Dyson V15s Detection Underwater

For the first time, Dyson has an all-in-one cordless wet-dry vacuum, the V15s Detect Submarine, which, like the new robot vacuum, is set to launch later this year. It supposedly provides just the right amount of water to remove spills, stains, and small dry debris like food crumbs. It does this via eight water jets that deliver 18ml of water every minute to a motor-driven microfiber roller, which Dyson considers just the right amount to wash floors evenly without leaving behind ‘excessive moisture’.

The 300 ml water tank is apparently good for up to 110 square meters of flooring. A plate draws contaminated water from the wet roller and dumps it into a separate, larger 360ml waste tank so no dirt or debris is transferred to your floor.

An “acoustic dust detection” feature includes an LCD display that shows the size and amount of particles being vacuumed, and measures microscopic particles with a piezoelectric sensor, so the vacuum can automatically boost suction from the 125,000-rpm motor when necessary.

Dyson Big+Quiet Purifier Formaldehyde

Improving on its existing HEPA Cool Formaldehyde fan that can filter out pollen, pet shed, tobacco smoke, household cleaning products and outdoor air pollutants like formaldehyde, Dyson now has a “Large + Quiet” version. “of this air purifier. Rather than being intended for your average bedroom, Big+Quiet Formaldehyde has been specifically designed to clean the air in large, open spaces.

The ventilation system can deliver purified air over 10 meters, Dyson claims, while a new carbon dioxide sensor supposedly lets you know when to ventilate. That’s the “big” part, the “quiet” part is covered by the fact that this HEPA fan operates at only 56 decibels.

Do you want to bring the outside in? A breeze mode apparently mimics the airflow patterns and characteristics of a natural outdoor airflow.

What about next generation batteries?

Eager to flex his engineering strength, Dyson’s jaunt around his Singapore Sites brought journalists a behind-the-scenes look at its St James Power Station, Singapore Advanced Manufacturing Facility (to see the components of its digital engines) and Singapore Technology Centre.

Various staff members demonstrated research products, including autonomous robots with grabbing arms that can help pick up household items, while handing out miniature models of vacuum cleaners as souvenirs for journalists, built using the prototyping lab’s bank of industrial 3D printers.

What wasn’t shown, however, was something potentially much more lucrative for the company than iterative upgrades to vacuums and purifiers: how Dyson planned to make what promised to be radically new types of batteries.
