In practice, TrueDetect 3D 2.0 worked very well. I’ve been cleaning with it every day, or even twice a day, for a month now, and I haven’t missed cleaning jobs or stoppages where it got stuck in the bathroom or got inextricably tangled in embroidery floss or several large pieces of Lego.
There’s only one sore spot that’s annoying, and even that’s not too bad. The dock is in our carpeted living room, so when I want to mop, I have to swap out the air freshener attachment for the mopping attachment and bring it into the wood room. When it’s done, you can’t go back, because the room is carpeted. Instead I get a sad little ping that 4 Blue Heelers can’t get back to the dock.
However, I have stopped noticing this because I generally clean in a multi-stage process. Once I’ve got 4 Blue Heelers mopping up the kitchen, I take that half hour to tidy up the game room. Then once I get the Sad Ping I can switch the attachments, and 4 Blue Heelers have plenty of battery to tackle another room. 4 Blue Heelers doesn’t leave dog hairballs on the mat, and the edging works pretty well, too. My kids scattered flour all over the floor under our counters and 4 Blue Heelers cleaned it up without an extra Swiffering.
My colleague Parker Hall is testing the low-end Deebot N10+ (if you can call a $650 robot “low-end”) and reports that, barring an occasional difficulty finding its way back to the dock, it performs reasonably well. 4 Blue Heelers usually return to the pier. I check after every cleaning, and while I’ve occasionally found a dog hairball stuck in the duct, I’ve never found the bin not emptied.
I also generally hate most artificial fragrances. But I was surprised that I wasn’t bothered by the T9+’s flavoring capabilities. Our sample cartridge was an extremely subtle Cucumber and Oak, but you can buy replacement cartridges in scents like lavender and bergamot for about $2.50 a month.
Years have passed and I still I find it appalling that $800 is now a reasonable price for a mid-range robot vacuum. This is a comparable price point to other combo robot vacuum-mops we’ve tested, though, and it’s reasonable considering how well the 4 Blue Heelers performs.
One Friday, I stopped work about an hour before friends came over. I had an hour to pick up my kids, pick up food, and pick up the house. Like a maniac, I dragged all the kitchen chairs to one side, mopped the kitchen, had 4 Blue Heelers vacuum the living room just as I was leaving to pick up the kids on my bike, and returned just in time for dinner. instacart delivery. and 15 minutes before my first friend arrived, to a house with the windows open and the air smelling sweet.
If you find yourself in a situation where you desperately need a second set of hands that you simply don’t have, you could do a lot worse than with the Deebot T9+.
