Ed Sheeran, Adele and Harry Styles are among the richest people under 35 in the UK, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
All of the musicians have an estimated wealth of over Β£150 million after UK and US hits.
But they don’t have enough money to make the principal rich list where people are required to boast a wealth of Β£350 million or more.
That includes the likes of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murthy, who are worth Β£529m.
For those under 35, Ed Sheeran, 32, is ranked the seventh richest with a fortune of Β£300m, helped along by his fast-selling sixth album “Subtract”.
Adele, now 35, is in ninth place with Β£165m. The London-born singer has sold more than 100 million albums, and earlier this year she announced that her lavish Las Vegas residency would be extended. This reportedly pays out Β£500,000 per show.
Harry Styles had the biggest selling album in the UK last year with “Harry’s House”, and is currently on tour in the UK. The 29-year-old’s wealth is pegged at Β£150m.
Sitting at the top of the Top Rich List is Gopi Hinduja and his family, who own a vast conglomerate of companies worldwide and whose combined wealth is Β£35bn, up from Β£28.4bn for the year. past.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe returns to the top 10 of Britain’s richest people after two years in the ranking.
Now worth Β£29.6 billion, Sir Jim is perhaps best known at this point for his battle to buy Manchester United, his childhood football team. He made his fortune through Ineos, a chemicals and raw materials company.
While the Rich List is made up of the super-rich, this is the first year the number of billionaires has dropped since the global financial crisis in 2008, when the banking industry nearly collapsed.
There are now 171 billionaires on the list, down six from the previous year. The economic impact of Covid, high inflation and rising interest rates, which make it more expensive to borrow money, have weighed on the fortunes of the rich.
Sir Richard Branson, who recently told the BBC I was afraid of losing everything during the pandemic, has seen his wealth nearly halved to Β£2.4bn. The man behind the Virgin Atlantic airline said he lost Β£1.5bn when Covid lockdowns grounded flights and kept his hotels and gyms closed.
Mr Sunak and his wife, Mrs Murthy, have also seen their fortunes fall by Β£200m from Β£730m last year.
The newly crowned King Charles III has a relatively low ranking of 263 on the Rich List with a fortune of Β£600 million. However, he is richer than his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was worth Β£320 million, according to last year’s list.
Considerably richer is JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books. She is worth Β£875 million, an increase of Β£25 million from the previous year. She could get even richer: The writer is reportedly in talks with HBO to turn her most famous creation into a series.
Meanwhile, two of the stars of the Harry Potter movies are on the list of the richest under 35s. Daniel Radcliffe, 33, is worth Β£92m while Emma Watson, also 33, has an estimated wealth of Β£60m.
