The purpose of this first segment-specific technology report is to provide a high-level overview of technologies impacting the business of industrial staffing firms. Where we have published in-depth reports on a particular technology, links to those reports are provided so that the reader can easily access more information.
Key findings:
- The use of the Staffing Platform among industrial employment agencies is about to grow substantially, but it is not a ready-made solution. The take-up rate at industrial employment agencies is currently around 60%. However, given a reported average revenue increase of 20% from platform adoption, companies that successfully adopt platforms are likely to have a competitive advantage.
- SMS/email technology enables staffing agencies to meet the preferences of talents in terms of communication tools. Texting is particularly relevant for industrial staffing agencies as it is the most preferred form of communication for temporary workers in manufacturing occupations. The use of these technologies by industrial staffing agencies will increase dramatically, with all industrial staffing companies that responded to a SIA survey planning to maintain or expand their use of SMS and email technologies.
- Recruitment Chatbots provide automation of well-defined, routine tasks, scalability and free up staff time for more valuable tasks. The majority of industry staffing agencies plan to expand their use of chatbots, with a combined 85% planning to expand or maintain current use.
- Earned Wage Access serves as a beneficial benefit that can help attract talent. This could be particularly interesting for industrial staffing talent, given the demographic overlap with payday loan borrowers. Access to earned income may be most attractive to talent participating in short-term or single-shift assignments.
- AI (artificial intelligence) will not fundamentally change the tasks of industrial talent in the coming years, but these systems will provide employment agencies with new tools and new challenges. AI and developments in robotics are likely to change the tasks of industrial talent in the next 5-10 years, for example with warehouse automation.
- Virtual Reality is still being tested by employment agencies and clients. Companies have reported successful applications in terms of candidate engagement and training.
