Best for long distances
If you want a plane that can carry up to 17 passengers and fly up to 14 hours/7,500 miles, the Bombardier Global 6000 (from about $20 million used, $60 million new) offers first-class comfort and sleeps eight. the new 8000 world cup (19 passengers, may include a private suite with a full-size bed, $81 million) can cruise at just under the speed of sound, while Gulfstream G800 (19 passengers, 10 seats, $72.5 million), offers similar speed and space. He G650 (19 passengers, capacity for 10; between $35 and $78 million) is a little smaller, but no less luxurious and has a range of 7,000 miles.
The best for a mini break
The ranges of the “Very Light” (VLJ) and “Light” jets are 1,000 and 1,500 miles respectively. Few VLJs have a bathroom; Expect limited headroom and minimal luggage space. The Embraer Phenomenon 100 (from $4.5 million) or Cessna Citation Mustang ($1.25 million to $3 million) VLJs seat four comfortably, plus one in a toilet with a seat belt (if installed). Or choose the single-pilot option and get the co-pilot chair. Medium aircraft such as Cessna XLS Citation (2009 model from $6.4 million), means up to 12 seats, a bathroom and more space for suitcases. He Phenomenon 300 ($9.8 million to $11.5 million) seats six people comfortably, 10 in a small space, with a “refreshment center” and bathroom. A rental costs around £25,000.
The best for work
Take a Cessna Citation CJ3 ($4.9 million to $6.5 million) for a meeting in Europe, with 1,665 miles of range with four passengers in a “club” seating arrangement (there’s also a bathroom). Returning from London to Munich, two nights’ notice, costs around £23,000 for a charter. For, say, New York or Dubai from London, a Gulfstream G650 ($35 million to $78 million) or Dassault Falcon 7X (new from around $54 million) have standing cabins, seating for 13 to 16 people, a sofa, several work and lounging areas, WiFi, cabin attendant and hot meals; a rental starts at around £120,000.
The best for a party
Party-goers heading to Ibiza or St Moritz on business trips endure three-hour transits at the airport before any disruption. Flying private means you can fly from fast-track business jet terminals whenever you’re ready. Meanwhile, the commercial airports of major ski destinations are hours away from the resorts. Instead, fly privately to, for example, Engadin Airport, 10 minutes from the bars of St Moritz. A Phenom 100 for four friends for a night out in a destination within Europe costs between £10,000 and £15,000 per hire. A Phenom 300 for four or six friends for a weekend in Ibiza or Saint Moritz costs from £30,000.
The best for pets
Many “pet parents” can’t bear to put their dog or cat in the hold of an airplane, and short-nosed canines like bulldogs struggle to breathe in commercial airliners’ simulated “cabin altitude” of around 6,000. feet, twice that of private planes. Reserve one of the 10 places with K9 Jets for passengers and a maximum of two pets, usually on a Gulfstream G-IVSP or GV. It has schedules to and from European and American cities, Dubai and Melbourne. One way for passenger and pets, from $8,925.
The best way to get off the beaten path
He Pilatus PC-24 (from about $8.5 million) is the only small plane designed to take off and land on approved gravel or grass runways. With robust engineering behind the luxury, it offers thousands more destination possibilities than planes that only operate on runways. A 2,000-mile range for up to six means you’ll have to stop to refuel for far-flung adventures, but the time is made up by being able to land closer to your final destination.
Best for frequent travelers
NetJets It has more than 1,000 jets for all types of trips, with fractional ownership plans ideal for those who want to fly 50 or more hours a year. flexjet offers a portion of an aircraft’s 800 flight hours available annually on its Gulfstream G650 and Praetor 600. For a G650, 100 flight hours cost about $6 million; For a Praetor 600, 50 hours of flight time will cost you around $1.6 million.
The best for a world tour.
Taylor Swift made headlines during her Eras tour due to the great distances traveled on it Dassault Falcon 7X. Dassault’s three-engine aircraft can use shorter runways due to their additional power and are recognized as safer in the event of an engine failure. The cabin layout of Taylor’s Falcon is unknown, but they seat 16 people, though probably less, for super-smooth, fuel-efficient 11-hour/6,800-mile flights at 51,000 feet. Andy Christie Air charter service says that renting a Falcon 7X like Swift’s for a two-week, multi-stop trip with family or friends would cost at least £1 million, roughly the value of an artist’s paycheck after reaching one million album sales.
Charter flight prices may vary depending on the number of passengers and fuel prices; Acquisition costs cannot include a designer or a fitted interior.
flight things
Options beyond purchasing a plane include “fractional ownership,” on-demand rental, and pay-per-seat. Discounted seats can be negotiated on “empty leg” flights, when planes might otherwise fly empty when “repositioning.”
