Formula 1 TV Drama Series “One” Starring Felicity Jones in the Works
In recent times, there has been an increase in the production of television and film content relating to motorsport with Formula 1, in particular, being a popular choice. According to Deadline, a new series titled “One” is in the works, centered around a family-owned Formula 1 team. The series, which is the first officially-sanctioned scripted production about F1, stars Felicity Jones and is being produced under Piecrust Pictures, Jones’ own production company. The show will focus on the family dynamics of the team as they navigate the ruthless and high-pressure world of Formula 1.
The Production Details
Although no release date has been set, the series is highly anticipated by fans of the sport and showbiz enthusiasts alike. The script is being written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, both of whom have worked on successful TV shows as writers and producers. Reportedly, the show will blend both fictional and real-life events from the world of Formula 1 to create a compelling plotline.
F1’s Eventful History with Family-Owned Teams
Family-owned teams have been a significant part of Formula 1’s history. Therefore, it is no surprise that “One” centers around this concept. Some notable examples of such teams include the Williams F1 team, which was started by Frank Williams in 1977. The team was under family management until the sale to US investment firm Dorilton Capital in 2020. Claire Williams, Frank’s daughter, took over the day-to-day management of the team, making her one of the few women to have run an F1 team.
In the world of entertainment, there are several Formula 1-related productions currently in production or already released. This includes Brad Pitt’s F1 movie produced by Apple Studios and a documentary about Lewis Hamilton scheduled to premiere on AppleTV. Additionally, Keanu Reeves is reportedly working on an F1 documentary for Disney+, and Netflix has announced a thriller titled “The Formula,” starring Robert De Niro and John Boyega.
An Example of Hollywood’s Fascination with Motorsport
The increase in motorsport-related content can be traced back to Hollywood’s fascination with the sport. From dramas to documentaries, there has been a surge in production interest, with many legendary drivers being the star subjects of these productions. For instance, the documentary “Senna” details the tragic story of Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. The film “Rush” tells the story of the fierce rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, while “Ford v Ferrari” depicts the process leading up to Ford’s historic win against Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966.
The Compelling Nature of Motorsport
The reason behind the surge in motorsport-related productions can be linked to the sport’s compelling nature. Racing drivers are some of the most highly skilled athletes, with races often being won or lost by split-second decisions. Therefore, it is no wonder that fans of these productions are drawn in by the intensity, drama, and stakes that they showcase.
Summary
“One” is an upcoming F1 TV drama series being produced under Piecrust Pictures. The show is the first officially-sanctioned scripted production about F1 and stars actress Felicity Jones. The series, which centers around a family-owned Formula 1 team, will aim to blend fictional and real-life events from the world of Formula 1. Furthermore, the series will detail the ruthless and high-pressure nature of the sport. In recent years, the popularity of motorsport-related productions has skyrocketed, with the likes of Brad Pitt’s F1 movie and Lewis Hamilton’s documentary premiering on AppleTV. The reason behind the surge in motorsport-related productions can be attributed to the sport’s compelling nature and the captivating drivers involved.
