First India, then PAK… Now Sri Lanka, this record was made for the third time in 146 years of Test history – top four batters scored hundreds in a Test innings record team

Whatever be the format in international cricket, the role of top-5 batsmen is very important in it. Especially in Test cricket, top-5 batsmen are the life of any team. If these batsmen do not play, then there is every possibility of the match getting out of hand.

But when only these top-5 batsmen show their strength, then it becomes very special for that team. But this is rarely seen. But there is also such a record, which has been made only three times in 146 years of Test history and these three records have been made by Asian teams India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka only.

First team India made a record

This record is of scoring a century by the top-4 players of a team in an innings of a Test match. This record was first made by the Indian team in 2007 in Dhaka Test against Bangladesh. In that Test match, the top-4 player scored a century for the Indian team.

These four players are Sachin Tendulkar (122 not out), Rahul Dravid (129), Wasim Jaffer (138 not out) and Dinesh Karthik (129). In that match, Karthik and Jaffer took the lead in the opening. While Dravid number-3 and then Sachin came for batting. The Indian team won that match by an innings and 239 runs.

Then Pakistan achieved this success

After this, in 2019, the Pakistan team made this record. Top-4 players Shan Masood (135), Abid Ali (174), Azhar Ali (118) and Babar Azam (100 not out) scored centuries for Pakistan in the Karachi Test against Sri Lanka. Pakistan won this match by a margin of 263 runs.

Sri Lanka has made this record for the third time.

The Sri Lankan team is currently playing a two-Test series against Ireland at home. The second Test is being played in Galle, in which Sri Lanka’s top-4 batsmen have scored centuries. In this way, this record of scoring a century by the top-4 batsmen in an innings of a Test match has been made for the third time in the history of cricket.

Top-4 player Nishan Madushka (205 runs), Captain Dimuth Karunaratne (115 runs), Kusal Mendis (245 runs) and Angelo Mathew (100 not out) scored centuries for Sri Lanka. In such a situation, till now only Asian teams have been ahead in the matter of this record.
