Fisker partners with Ample to provide interchangeable batteries for Ocean SUVs



Electric vehicle manufacturer fisker he said he would start delivering his Ocean Sport utility vehicle with exchangeable batteries made by Ample early next year.

Partnership with battery startup will help Fisker increase the reach and adoption of its electric vehicles in the U.S. and Europe, the electric machine the manufacturer said, adding that Ample will share the revenue related to the battery swap mechanism.

Fisker added that the initial customer for Ample electric vehicles will be fleet operators who are looking to “transition to electric mobility without economic or operational compromises.”

The long charging times that are common at most public and commercial charging stations are a major barrier to EV adoption.

San Francisco-based Ample is part of a growing group of companies, including Chinese EV makers Nio and Xpeng, seeking to revive and update an old idea: Leapfrog charging hurdles by offering quick changeovers. battery to EV owners concerned about running out of charge while driving.
