Ford has just released a track finder app The appropriate name Bronchus The Trail app is available for iOS and Android mobile devices and comes with a load of goodies for serious off-road enthusiasts. In other words, this app isn’t for people who use their rugged SUVs primarily to grab coffee down the street.
The app takes drivers to more than 1,200 professionally curated routes in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (with more countries on the way), totaling 18,000 miles. These maps let you filter by location, length, difficulty and more, with the ability to save your favorite routes. Once you’ve saved a route, you can add waypoints, notes and even photos to show off your favorite landmarks.
Of course, the further into the wilderness you get, the more cell service drops off. The app lets you download maps in advance in satellite or 2D topo formats so you can view them even when you’re in the middle of nowhere.
Besides the curated maps, there are some high-tech features here. The app integrates with the SUV’s tire pressure gauge sensor and automatically adjusts the pressure based on route recommendations. This feature works without a cellular or cloud connection. There’s a small social media component here as well, as you can swap tagged maps with other Bronco owners to share unique and similar destinations.
On the subject of social media, the app includes the ability to capture videos, which are then shared via your favorite social network. This is no ordinary video, however, as this content is automatically overlaid with all kinds of useful and nifty information, such as speed, RPM, distance travelled, altitude and much more.
The app is free, but it’s new Ford Bronco it starts at around $42,000. It’s available for download right now, and Ford says it will stay on top of updates, adding more rides and features in the coming months. You will also need a updated FordPass subscription, But if you own a new Bronco, you probably have that too.
