For the fondue, Chasalp in the hills above Zurich it’s hard to beat. A lovely farm building, friendly staff and cute rabbits visible through the windows make this a great place for families, kids, dates or friends. Visitors from abroad usually love the traditional Swiss vibes.

If you’re feeling particularly peckish, the Fondue Feast lets you sample a range of fondues: truffles, champagne, chilli, mozzarella, herbs, and more. I have tried many fondue places all over Switzerland over the last few years and this is my favourite.

Tips: Book ahead during the winter months. It’s easiest to reach by car from Zürich HB (about 15 minutes) — public transport can take up to 35 minutes. Avoid overeating during the day before the meal. Go to the gym the next day. Directions
