How nice it would be to celebrate our birthdays as self- and motorcycle creators, spend a couple of years creating elaborate gifts and then spend a whole year opening them? harley davidson turns 120 this year and has already provided a first look at the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide duo landing big roles at the company’s birthday event in June. Now, four new bikes join the festive parade. These are the latest releases from existing collections as opposed to anniversary specials, all honoring an era in which harley it was the undisputed king of two-wheelers on the American road.
The 2023 Electra Glide Highway King takes its place as the third installment in the Icons Motorcycle Collection and a throwback to the 1968 FLH Electra Glide. Get within 10 feet, your hair will start to grow and your wallet will sprout a chain. Dressed for the old school, it comes with chrome steel wire wheels wrapped in white bands, a detachable two-tone windshield with a lower section to match the paint finish, a black and white solo seat with a chrome rail, more chrome on the fender and on the rail bag, Electra Glide lettering on the front fender and bags in white fiberglass because it’s the only one color 1968 model offered.
It comes in two colors, Hi-Fi Orange or Hi-Fi Magenta, with a Black Denim panel on the tanks and Birch White accents and bags. The tank badge is a nod to the 1968 Electra Glide, and there’s serialized notation laser-engraved on the console. Harley will produce 1,000 Orange Hi-Fis for global consumption, only 750 Magenta Hi-Fis.
The remaining three anthems form the 2023 Enthusiast Collection celebrating Harley-Davidson riders. These flash both a prewar Harley symbol and a different icon from the 1960s and 70s, muscle car era paint jobs. The vintage Harley the reference is to Fast Johnnie, a piglet adopted by factory rider Ray Weishaar in 1920. Johnnie joined Weishaar at the races, wearing a leash attached to a harness with the same Harley-Davidson logo that adorned Weishaar’s uniform, and occasionally sat atop to the tank for photos and victory laps. Johnnie is thought to have been the original pig which led to Harley’s HOG nickname.
The colors are said to come from the vibrant spectrum of muscle car paint swatches especially popular in performance editions with funky character names, though the Harley-Davidson Celestial Blue base color is dark enough to blend in with the modern times. The blue is enhanced by white stripes and accents, an image of Fast Johnnie on both sides of the tank and an Enthusiast Collection logo on the rear fender.
The Fast Johnnie treatment can be applied to Road Glide ST, Street Glide ST and Low Rider ST. The company will offer no more than 2,000 of each.
