If you have a kid that makes that kind of decision about his education, let him do it. Education with discipline is a recipe for a successful career and future.
I requested the same thing at a similar age. My family laughed and called me ignorant. I never went. Joined the military at 18 but did not do well as I lacked the physical and psychological preparedness I would have had. Perhaps I would not have joined. As a parent now, I try to remember that my opinion and support (or lack of) can change the future of my children.
I got ridaculed for letting my 16 yr old daughter be an exchange student in Russia Famley Church, friends….. She was an honer student, held down a job with the bureau of land management in Anchorage Alaska. I didn't let anyone back me down from letting her go. She raised the $ on her own.she went.
As a parent it is our job to guide our children to making good decisions. It sounds like you did this and we need more parents like you and we definitely need more young people like your son because to many of our kids today don't have good heads on their shoulders and are just plan old lazy as long as we keep having kids like your son our future is looking good keep up the good work
Yup, what Steve and pretty much everyone else here is saying – you are the parent, and your kid is actually making an intelligent decision. Don't listen to your family. You're doing a good job, and I love your confidence – keep it up.
Parents today are letting their kids younger than that. Decide what gender they are. Some how that's excepted. But wanting to go to school is a problem. SMFH.

Try to remember you are doing what is best for him. If someone has an issue, it is their issue, its not yours. You are doing what is best for him.
It’s called dysfunction and girl you have to break the cycle of your dysfunction family’s way of thinking.
