A ‘hidden house’ in trendy Birmingham suburb has gone up for sale, revealing a secret house that opens like the tardis from Doctor Who. Like a story from a Victorian Gothic novel, a pristine black door numbered 20 hides a world of designer rooms within.
Estate agent Maguire Jackson has even referred to the three-bedroom townhouse in the Jewelry Quarter like ‘hidden house’ online. Tucked away on Key Hill Drive, hockleythe property sits on a small alleyway near the city’s oldest cemetery, historic Key Hill.
However, although it looks small from the outside, Zoopla shows that there is an extravagant maze of rooms inside and even a terrace and more bathrooms than bedrooms: four instead of three. It’s on the market for £675,000 and our photo gallery below shows why.
Although hidden from view, once inside, there is an open plan living and dining room, breakfast kitchen, private patio, three en-suite bedrooms, an upper terrace and a further bathroom.
Luxury additions range from underfloor heating to Italian white Carrera marble herringbone flooring by Mandarin Stone throughout the house, just a few minutes’ walk from the many restaurants and bars of St Paul’s Square.
A Maguire Jackson estate agent said: “Throughout the property, the owner’s excellent attention to detail is evident.
“It is an elegant and beautifully proportioned three-bedroom property, renovated and finished to a rarely seen standard and to an excellent specification and state-of-the-art technology.
“The entire property was restored in 2018 after being stripped of brick and includes new ceilings, floors, drywall, wiring and plumbing throughout. The property has retained some original features that have been updated.
“At the heart of this beautiful family home is the open plan living/dining room and excellent breakfast kitchen.
“The breakfast kitchen is the showpiece of this magnificent home, featuring a range of units with white granite worktops and splashbacks, integrated Neff and AEG appliances, bespoke handcrafted exposed brickwork and a workbench island. restored original dating from the 19th century.
Bi-fold French doors open to the private patio with sunlit and wooded views. There is also handcrafted Tedd Todd solid oak flooring on the ground floor.
The large, south-facing covered terrace is described as “an idyllic oasis in the city”. Both the terrace and patio are said to be perfect places for alfresco dining, relaxing or entertaining friends and family.
