HONDO, Texas – Owner Melissa Claire said Chateau Claire Boutique Bed & Breakfast will serve a full house this weekend.
“We are complete,” Claire said. “We were a little shocked, overwhelmed and very excited about all of this.”
With the The eclipse will cross south central Texas on Monday, TxDOT expects increased traffic across the state. For small business owners, more people can mean more sales and small businesses across Hondo are offering eclipse specials to attract more customers.
“Tonight we had a special barbecue for them,” Claire said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather holds up and we can enjoy it.”
Mainstreet Mercantile on Highway 90 ordered T-shirts and trinkets themed after the celestial event.
“Small businesses had a tough time last year,” said owner Heather Ward. “Anything we were excited about was great.”
Ward said they received their merchandise last week and have been selling several items a day.
“It’s been exciting,” Ward said. “They’ve been very popular.”
As Hondo begins to fill with people ready to watch the eclipse, Ward said he hopes people will stop and support small businesses in the area.
“We believe this will have a significant impact on our small-town community,” Ward said.
If you have not yet left for your destination to view the eclipse, TxDOT urges drivers to be patient and create a plan before leaving. For advice, Click here.
