The other option is Pair manually, which means signing into the app on your phone with your Microsoft account, and then connecting your Windows 11 computer via a PIN code. Whichever method you choose, you’ll need to confirm some permissions on your phone, like the app’s ability to access your text messages.
Depending on your phone, there may be some additional steps. For example, when it comes to the ability to receive and make phone calls through your Windows 11 computer, you need to establish an additional Bluetooth link between the devices. This is all explained on screen so just follow the instructions.
Use of the telephone link
After connecting your phone, you will see that Phone Link is divided into several sections: Messages (for your texts), Photos (for the photos and videos on your phone, if you’re on Android), and calls (to call). Click on the Settings (the little gear on the right), and you can set how notifications are displayed, change the appearance of the Phone Link app, have Phone Link start at the same time as Windows, and more.
There are some limitations with iPhones at the time of writing: there are no Photos tab, for one. Group chats are not supported, nor are photos, videos, or GIFs within messages. Also, you can’t access your entire message history through Windows 11, only messages sent and received while the connection to your PC is active.
switch to Messages tab and you will see that sending a new SMS or iMessage is easy. Open a conversation or click the new message button (a pen on a page) to choose a contact and send them a message. There is also a search box available if you need to search for older chats. The ability to add emojis, GIFs, and images is at the bottom, next to the text input bar.
