This week’s number of trips takes us to some of the places I’ve heard about most often recently, in a year when most barriers to travel have been lifted. In March, I was lucky enough to visit Mumbai to attend a Dior show at India Gate, an incredible experience that indulged the senses and gave me a glimpse of a city I hope to return to soon. The trip also offered the opportunity to visit Chanakya, an embroidery specialist and school that Dior Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri has worked with and patronized for more than 25 years. More than 1,000 young women have gone through the school’s program that invites people from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn the skills of sewing and leads them towards a career.

Maria Shollenbarger, our travel editor, spends so much time in the air that few trips seem to faze her (read her brilliant singapore report). But what would happen when his adventure included an old man plus one? On a trip to Morocco to celebrate her mother’s 80th birthday, Maria considers the emotional and physical challenges of traveling with one of her parents (not surprisingly, the itinerary gets cut down pretty quickly), as well as the enormous privilege of seeing the world through older, wiser and less demanding eyes. piece of mary It is beautifully written and very moving: I hope it inspires anyone who worries about whether their parents can “handle” long-distance travel to take the plunge.
For those looking for more accessible diversions, we offer a Gastronomic odyssey through Suffolk. The county appears to have benefited from the great exodus from London that took place in the wake of the pandemic and has enjoyed a food renaissance in the past two years. Local resident Clare Coulson tours the new restaurants, beach cabanas and bars to observe and sample the change.

Finally, what do you expect from a hotel? An intact interior reminiscent of a bygone era? Or maybe you want a living room that feels cozy and familiar? To do this, consult our guide to the best home hotels. Maybe you need a dog bed to house your favorite canine though? Patti Waldmeir, the FOOTThe correspondent and cinófilo of North America, will be well known by the HTSI readers for his candid chronicles of the Midwest aboard a mobile home. For this problem, however, you are testing the best hotels for dogs. According to current research, 23 million American households have got a new pet as of 2020, and 52% of Americans plan to take their dogs with them on vacation – the rise of doggy getaways clearly makes some business sense. But as the dogs avail themselves of bark boards and velvet dog beds, Patti discovers that even the most luxurious establishment can present strange challenges for the “person” traveling with them.
