Hyundai Kills Rumors About N Vision 74 Concept In Production

THE voices on a production version of the Hyunda N Vision 74 concept they were fun while they lasted. Hyundai representatives in South Korea and the United States have put the kibosh on a report in the South Korean outlet Money today advocating an N Vision 74 for the market. Supposedly, the design studio at the Asian headquarters would host a Pony Day on March 27 where the assembled executive would show off the car and announce the good news. The automaker makes its appearance in Korea he told the Korean outlet WikiTree (translated), “No series production of the Pony Coupe is planned, and no Pony Day event is planned.” Make sure everyone has received the memo, a US representative said car scoopWe are aware of media speculation about the potential commercial production of the N Vision 74 mobile lab development model,” but that “[while] the heritage and spirit of the Pony models have a lasting impact on the Hyundai Motor Company, we currently have no plans for commercial production of the Pony Coupe Concept.”

So Hyundai didn’t want to listen to us when we suggested the company to pony up on a retail model and provided the justifications for doing so. All right. We can’t believe this is the end of the road for the coupe, though. Hyundai has extracted its Pony heritage with excellent results and excellent sales with the Ioniq 5. There is already a platform and a design language. If the next decade proves that electric makes sense for the market, business and natural resources at the economic end of the car buying spectrum, why wouldn’t a retail version of the N Vision 74 come out of the chute to work with an electric? Ford Mustangs, Electric Volkswagen Golfelectric Honda CivicAND a potential Nissan Max-Out Convertible?

While we wait for time’s response, we know a different special is on the way. Hyundai destroyed the Pony Coupe Concept shown at the 1974 Turin Auto Show to help establish the Pony range. Memories of the coupe were an inspiration for the 45 Concept which became the Ioniq 5, for the Pony EV restomodand for the N Vision 74 concept in the eye of the latest storm. To pay homage to its origins, the automaker has announced that it will collaborate with GFG Style, the Turin design house founded by father and son designers Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugaro, to recreate the Pony Coupe Concept show car. Last year, Hyundai said it was slated to debut this spring. If there is a Pony Day, this will be its prize.
