A man who couldn’t read or write until he was 20 years old spoke of his pride after becoming a paramedic.
Richard Henton, from Bestwood Village, Nottinghamshire, who has dyslexia, had always dreamed of wearing the green uniform, but some teachers told him he wasn’t working hard enough at school.
“[For the] For the first time in my life I feel proud of myself and I don’t feel like I’m stupid,” he said.
“I know I’m not. I’ve earned my place.”
