  1. Berni mentioned all the things Blake says, about the ability to adjust the set up …not being able to adjust the set up really affected the race in a very negative way IMO

  2. how to make a sprint shootout more interesting is a reverse grid order, so bottom team can have a chance to score a point and the big four can desperately push for a victory.
so the format is like this,
Friday – FP1 + Qualifying for the Main race.
Saturday – FP2 and Sprint Shootout with reverse grid order of yesterday Qualifying (there's no chance the big four rigging Quali results because it will be for the main race).
    Sunday – Main race.

    Edit: format.

  3. Really enjoyed this episode! Looking forward to seeing Ant’s shirt choice 😂, and thought Blake was very insightful. Hadn’t heard of him before but will definitely follow going forward!

  4. Once the reg change to ground effects cars was delayed, the switch to a cost cap regime should ALSO have been delayed. Inverting the order of implementation was just a fast path to one team domination.
Pretty strategic 'cheat' on Red Bull Racing's part.

  5. The best format would be. Friday Practice 1 and 2. This keeps the tickets affordable for everyone and if you get a shocker in practice 1 you can still recover in practice 2.

Saterday sprintqualifying and the sprintrace. And Sunday the full qualifying and the race.

  6. I like the idea of potential points for the midfield. I'd love to hear your opinions on potential turning the 8th place 1point into a bonus 1 point for anyone who finishes ahead of where they started. That way you get points 8 down to 2 for the top 7 and then anyone in the midfield who finishes ahead of where they started are encouraged to challenge and defend more aggressively during the sprint race.

  7. Here's a thought. How about making the sprint race for only the bottom 10 drivers? Even small amounts of points matter in the mid and back field so the race would actually mean something

  8. Blake has supreme insight from both sides of the fence of a fan and race engineer perspective.

Having an American presence is huge for the base and can only net positive growth.

  9. As a viewer, the sprint format is great, perhaps not so for the, or some of the, teams. Perhaps changing the order would help and would also get rid of some of the confusion.

Friday as is but separate tyre allocations for practice, sprint shoot out and sprint. Saturday, sprint in the morning once the sprint is over, new allocation of tyres and park ferme re-opens for some items for the main quali in the afternoon, race obviously on Sunday.

For the engineers, this could then also mean the sprint and shoot out are test type sessions for the main events.

As for sprint points, perhaps 13 for a win (14 if you're superstitious) and 1 point less down the order so points down to 13th or 14th. All teams should then have a real chance of scoring but no freebies.

  10. I think Max’ bad mood on Saturday had nothing to do with Checo, it was because he just hates the whole idea of Sprint races and the prospect of having to do even more in the future.

  11. Regarding the cars and wings causing turbulence. If most of the downforce is supposed to be from the floor, why do you need 2 wings? Only 1 should be allowed to balance the car so front or back but not both. Each car/driver can choose which for each race although designers may wish to always use just one to make the floor performance more consistent.

Taking this further, if they really want to cut costs and control turbulence, with this being only for balance, you could have them as standardised but infinitely adjustable parts.

  12. Really nice and balanced podcast. I am a racing fan who supports Max, but not blindly. I do not enjoy a lot of the Sky sports reporting which to me seems to be too often anti- Max rather than objective/ neutral and based on personal emotions rather than actual analysis. Just like I do not enjoy a lot of the Dutch media which is very blindly supporting Max. But this podcast I really enjoyed, just a great mix of content by modest people with various types of real insight.

  13. The reason why Alonso is helping Lance is because there are exactly ZERO downsides to doing so.

    1. Stroll will never beat Alonso on a level playing field, so even if Alonso helps him to improve, Stroll ain't beating Alonso. (Do you think he would do the same for Lewis, Max, George or Charles?)
    2. This is Alonso's best chance of scoring a win since his Ferrari days – that's a decade of no wins; the closer the team gets to the front, the better his chances of a win.
    3. If he can ingratiate himself with the Strolls, he could have a dream end to his career with a string of podiums, maybe some wins and maybe even a title challenge in a year or two.
    4. Maybe he learnt from his past mistakes 🤷

  14. Sprint Weekend format
Friday:FP1 then parc ferme with SPQ
Saturday: SPR then remove parc ferme so teams can change whatever. Then as soon as qualifying starts back into Parc ferme as normal race weekend. So the teams can change at least twice over the weekend.
    Sunday: Race.

  15. The issue isn’t the format, the issue is that this years cars are like 2021 and before, they can’t follow anymore. The fia needs to step in.

  16. F1 is becoming a bit of a joke now. Pointless extra gimmicky races just DILUTES the product. What should happen is after qualifying the front seven from the last race shift to the back and the rear seven from the last race move to the front. That retains the inegrity of qualifying but produces the 'mixed wet race style' grids that the public love…. EVERY race! Turn the public ON not OFF!

  17. F1 Sprint Weekend Format Suggestion

    Friday
    Practice 1 – 1hr
    Sprint quali
    SQ1 – 12 min / 3 hot laps +1 pit stop – new mediums
    SQ2 – 10 min / 2 hot laps – new sofas
    SQ3 – 6 min / 1 hot lap – new ultra soft – running order based on SQ2

    Saturday
    Sprint race – morning/ early
    Points down to 10th
    1 pt for 10th – 9 pts for 2nd and 11 pts for 1st
1 pts for fastest lap available to the full grid but you have to finish the race.
Last 5 eliminated for qp quali
Parc ferme opened after sprint race.

    GP Quali – afternoon/ late
Existing quali format but without q1

    Sunday
    GP

  18. How long 'til F! switches to a one-design formula? Then they can do all the stupid "entertainment" tricks like inverted starts, sprinklers to wet the track, "balance of performance" penalties for those who do the best job and a few other silly ideas. OK, for the sprint weekend how about; two practices on Friday, Sprint Qualy and Race on Saturday (sprint results setting the GP starting grid) and race on Sunday. Grand Prix should NOT be for the freakin' engineers. They should have to make do with minimal practice and not analyze everything to death. Then we might have some interesting races.

  19. It seemed as though Jim Clark and Graham Hill worked together. Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren and Brabham and Denny Hulme all worked well together. Also Francois Cevert and Jackie Stewart seemed a good pairing. I don't think anyone will ever call Max a "good teammate" … a fast driver sure, but not a good bloke.

  20. 1:30 they talk about being green but the schedule has an extreme carbon footprint. They should have done all back to backs in America then canada etc etc.

    P.S. Bring back the V10
