  1. Sounds like Ted has suffered a house fire, from the way he knows how to describe it. Hope he/family were OK, also an awful thing to happen, not only worrying for your life but losing potentially your entire life's possessions.

  2. Is it just me? I cannot believe Ted's question as to whether Grosjean's crash would have been better or worse than hitting a solid concrete block. Surely hitting that block would have been the end of his life. At least the metal barrier 'gave' to an extent.

  3. Grosjean was saved by the halo. I think that is clear. But this accident highlighted the biggest problem with the barrier. The design of the barrier is archaic. No car should go through the barrier. And the angle it was situated in relation to the track is just wrong. A car should never be able to hit a barrier that close at what was basically 90 degree or head on. Who the hell thought that was ok?? We have barrier along our highways that are angled at maybe 15 degree and the secondary barrier which the vehicle can't hit has a much more severe angle. What are these people thinking? As for the safety car and the marshalls? What an incredible job!! They are all heroes!! They were in there without hesitation.

  5. Since the great late Senna died the sport has got safer hence the Halo. Romain didnt want the Halo now his blessed by it. Well done F1 all track safety staff and 1 brave Doctor. Well done u

  6. The way Grosjean's Haas went through the armco reminded me of Allan McNish's equally massive Suzuka shunt at the exit of 130R (one of the fastest corners in F1) -luckily the Toyota didn't catch fire, and McNish didn't hit the barrier, he survived with minor injuries as well but never raced in F1 again. He too was a very lucky fu*ker that day… 🙁

  7. Too bad the remains of that loose nut behind the wheel wasn't still there either. So stupid how this sport still have very weak spots in the Safety sector on All Circuits.

  8. Is that a forced retirement from F1 to make it go away faster , if I was the team boss I'd want grosjean back for at least one GP to settle his demons and move on , same if I was the driver , unfinished business , it was a freak accident really and the chances of it happening again are almost zero

  9. I hope we see a video explaining what they learned in all areas of this crash, and what changes are being made to address them.

  10. God bless the hans and halo devices. Take either one of those devices away and I'm 65-80% sure this race would of had a fatality. And shout out to th3 be rest of thine field for going back out and finish g the race

  11. This just reminds me of François Cevert’s crash at Watkins Glen. Granted technology has moved on drastically, but those sectional Armco barriers will never be a good option. They obviously take a lot of force out of the impact but they will separate, I think a solid sheet of Armco or those concrete linked barriers are a better idea, they move, reducing the impact, but they look linked together so assume they won’t split apart.

  12. Three factors came together to save his life:

    Halo
    HANS device
    upgraded fire suit

There’s no question, without the Halo, he’s not here with us today. Without the HANS, he may have lived, but I’m not sure. In he old fire suit, I think he still lives, but is burned over more of his body.

  13. I had taken a quick ten minute cigarette break at work to watch the start of the race… I got a disciplinary after being away for 30 minutes until I showed my boss what I’d just witnessed and he quite sportingly revoked it.
