JBS announced that it will invest R$ 800 million in its Friboi unit in Diamantino (MT), which will allow it to triple its production capacity at the site. With the investment, the Diamantino unit will become Friboi’s largest in the country, according to a company statement.
The announcement of the investment was made on Saturday (17) by the general director of JBS in Brazil, Gilberto Xandó, and by the president of Friboi, Renato Costa, during a meeting with local authorities and with the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, who was visiting the unit.
Production at the plant was halted following a fire that affected part of the facility on June 11.
Wesley and Joesley Batista, from the J&F group, the holding company that controls JBS, also participated in the meeting, according to the company statement.
“Mato Grosso is an extremely important region for JBS and Friboi. This investment in Diamantino is a reflection of our commitment to continue supporting and investing in the State,” said Joesley, according to the JBS note.
“With this contribution we will have the largest Friboi unit in the country. It is a demonstration of how strategic the region is for us,” Wesley said. “We are excited about the prospect of expanding our presence in the municipality and hope to further strengthen Mato Grosso’s cattle industry, contributing to its economic development,” said Xandó.

In addition to announcing the investment in expansion, Xandó and Costa reported that JBS will maintain the employment of approximately 1,400 employees at the plant during the reconstruction period of the affected facilities.
In the note, the company also reports that at least 1,400 jobs will be created at the site, in addition to maintaining current positions, bringing the total number of workers in the unit to 2,800. With the expansion, the number of direct jobs that the company will have in the state should go from more than 9,500 to nearly 11,000.
