Jeep Recalls Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L Over Steering Column

Fiat Chrysler US has initiated a recall of 89,327 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee from model years 2021 through 2023. Among about 1% of that population are SUVs that were built with an intermediate shaft improperly assembled into their steering columns. It is possible that on these 9000 or so Grand Cherokees, the intermediate shaft can be disconnected from the u-joint that connects it to the column. If the column loses its connection to the wheels, drivers will experience a loss of direction that could lead to a crash. The automaker says that before this occurs, the driver “may notice steering play and/or cornering noise before the intermediate shaft disconnects.” FCA The United States says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the matter.
