Khloe Kardashian has been having trouble bonding with her surrogate son.
In scenes aired in the new series of The Kardashiansthe 38-year-old admits that she found the experience of welcoming baby Tatum last July‘transactional’ and felt guilty for taking him away from the woman who had taken him.
Admitting that she wasn’t prepared for the reality of using a surrogate, she said: “I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy and didn’t digest what was happening.”
‘So I think when I went to the hospital, I really think that was the first time it really registered.
“You’re like, ‘Okay, we’re going to have a baby and this is my son and I’m taking him home with me,'” she explains.
“I was definitely in shock from my whole experience. I felt so guilty that this woman just had my baby and I took the baby and went into another room and we were kind of apart.
“I felt like it was such a transactional experience because it’s not about him.”
Both Tatum and 5-year-old True share father Tristan Thompson, a man whose infidelities have brought a lot of pain to Khloe’s life.
While they were undergoing the embryo transfer process for their second child, he impregnated another woman, the latest in a series of cheating scandals.
Fans also got to see Khloe discussing with Kim, 42, and Scott Disick how she had been struggling to find closeness with her young son, even though she loved him dearly.
She said: ‘It was a mindf**k. It’s the weirdest thing.
Kim, who used a surrogate for two of her four pregnancies, explained her theory that it can affect the bonding process.
She said: “I think there is a difference when the baby is in your womb, the baby really feels your real heart.” There is no one else on this planet that feels like this to you inside.
‘People can connect in different ways, some can’t connect.’
Asked by Scott Disick if she “feels less connected,” Khloe admitted that she does, and that she knows it could be a bond that grows over time.
He later reflected: ‘I wish someone would be honest about surrogacy and the difference. It doesn’t mean it’s bad or good. It’s still cool. It’s very different.
