Lula in Europe: Brazil signs 13 agreements with Portugal in the fields of education, health, culture and others

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced this Saturday (22nd) the establishment of an office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) in Lisbon and signed a series of agreements with Portugal.

According to the President, the measure will “show the seriousness of the relationship between Brazil and Portugal”. The declaration was made at the XIII. Brazil-Portugal Summit, an event in Lisbon aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The ceremony was attended by Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and 13 agreements were signed in the fields of education, justice, health, economy and culture. Lula stressed the importance of signing the bilateral agreements after the seven-year hiatus of the Brazil-Portugal summit.

In addition to the cooperation between Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) and Agência Lusa, memoranda were also signed in the fields of energy, geology and mining.

Training

In the field of education, an agreement has been signed that establishes the legal framework for granting equivalence of studies in Brazil (primary and secondary) and in Portugal (primary and secondary), in order to promote adequate school integration between the two countries. Another agreement in the field of education provides for the establishment of the Portuguese School of São Paulo.

The Portuguese Space Agency and the Brazilian Space Agency have signed a cooperation in the areas of peaceful uses of space, space sciences and technologies.

Health

The two leaders reaffirmed their public health commitment to development and innovation in health and biotechnology, “with a particular focus on epidemiological surveillance, preparedness and response to public health emergencies, digital health and in the development and production of health devices”.

“Both Brazil and Portugal share a common vision, namely the resilience of health systems, which must be strengthened to face this type of adversity, which of course we do not expect to be configured with the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic . but also with the ability to be autonomous in the production of vaccines, medicines and other health supplies,” Health Minister Nísia Trindade said this Saturday (22). The Minister is part of the President’s entourage during his state visit to Portugal.

Culture

The Ministers of Culture of Portugal and Brazil, with the participation of the National Film Agency (Ancine), also signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of cinema focusing on the promotion of film production in Portugal and Brazil through the co-financing of projects from both countries.

In the area of ​​human rights, there were two notions: one for the protection of witnesses in criminal proceedings and another that sets out best practices in promoting and defending the rights of people with disabilities.

Driver’s license

The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote mutual recognition of driving titles (driving licenses).
