The state government has taken major action against Sanjay Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation. He has been removed from office. This action has been taken on the Managing Director of the Transport Corporation due to the strike of the employees and the cyber attack.
In fact, on April 26, the online ticket booking system of UPSRTC was hacked, after which this action has been taken. Sanjay Kumar, MD of UP Transport Corporation has been put on waiting list.
At the same time, after the removal of Sanjay Kumar from the post, IAS N. Venkateshwar has been given the additional charge of the Managing Director of the Transport Corporation. By hacking the database of UP Transport, the hackers demanded 40 crore bitcoins, on which IT GM Yajuvendra Singh lodged an FIR.
Due to disruption of online booking, work is currently going on through manual ticketing and online service is still at a standstill. In a statement issued by the government after the online booking service was hacked, it was said that foreign hackers hacked the website at around 2 am.
Efforts are being made to restore it. M/s Orion Pro, the company managing the website, has engaged a team of experts to recover data from the website. The company has sought a week’s time to set up a new server to restore online ticketing services.
Orion Pro Company has also registered a case in this matter at its headquarters in Navi Mumbai. The online ticketing system will be restored in a phased manner in the next 7-10 days in all 20 zones and 115 depots of UPSRTC, the statement said.
Buses are running through manual ticketing
To ensure that the operation of the buses is not affected, the buses of the Transport Corporation are being operated through manual ticketing. Regional officers have been asked to keep an eye on the bus stand and depot for 24 hours. The government has decided to conduct third party security audit for all applications and web portals managed by the company.
Hackers threatened 800 million bitcoins
At the same time, after the hacking incident came to light, Yajuvendra Singh, GM IT of the Transport Corporation, lodged an FIR in the Cybercrime police station. He has told the police that the hackers have threatened that if the 400 million bitcoins demanded in ransom are not given within two days, then the ransom will be doubled i.e. 800 million bitcoins. After the matter came to light, the cybercrime team has started investigating.
