The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), described as “excellent” and “productive” the meeting he held with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, this Wednesday (27 ), in the Planalto Palace.

When asked by journalists whether the issue of cutting interest rates had been addressed, Haddad responded that the participants did not talk about specific issues, and indicated the agenda as an institutional meeting, of “building relationships” and agreeing on to “regular conversations.”

According to the minister, Lula made clear at the meeting his respect for the institution of the BC. “And the reciprocity was very good on Roberto’s part. It was a high-level conversation,” Haddad said. “Excellent, hard-working, very productive, friendly. Lula received him well, the conversation went very well,” added the minister.

When asked about mediation so that the meeting between Lula and Campos Neto could take place, Haddad responded that it was not necessary to work towards a rapprochement. “This meeting would happen, I will help in any way I can,” he concluded.
