Few people would say lotus flower it lacks performance. It’s meant to make just 2,000 horsepower and is lightweight for a electric car at about 3,700 pounds. but apparently Lotus wants to go further. These spy photos reveal a wild track-only special that is clearly labeled the Lotus Evija X test at the Nürburgring.
We assume that this X will be substantially lighter than a normal Evija. It has a bare carbon body with apparently fewer individual parts. The headlights are gone and so are the rear windows. The interior also seems destroyed.
That carbon body is also far from original. It’s much wider and has all sorts of add-ons that produce downforce. The front has a massive front splitter and canards and cutouts above the front wheels. The sides even have wide dividers with struts. And the crown aero accessory of the X is that massive wing that rises high above the roof.
The widebody also includes fat, slick racing tires that are almost certainly not street legal. They carry the Pirelli P Zero name on the sidewalls and are wrapped around center-lock wheels. AP racing brakes they are inside.
Of course, there are a lot of questions surrounding the Evija X. It’s definitely a track-only machine, but is it a one-of-a-kind, or will it be sold in extremely limited numbers to select buyers? Maybe Lotus wants to participate in Evija races? Although it looks more like a by-the-books type of car like the Pagani Zonda.
Or maybe the Volkswagen ID.R, the fastest electric car to go around the ‘Ring, would be a closer analogue to the Evija X. The spy photographer who provided these photos said Lotus rented the track for the day, and some sort of notary was on hand, probably to certify a lap time. If Lotus is looking for an EV lap record there, the Evija R will be outrageously fast. The ID.R time is in a shocking 6:05.336. And if Lotus beats it, it would become the second fastest car overall on the ‘Ring’. We will definitely be waiting for more details and an eventual turnaround time.
