Sergio Perez’s hopes of taking his first pole position in Monaco were dashed when the Red Bull driver crashed into the barrier on a fast lap in Q1, ending his qualifying and halting the process.
Pérez was heading for another flying lap in Q1 but, on the exit of Turn 2, he crashed into the barrier, damaging the left side of his car in the process. That impact forced him to stop on the track and brought out the red flags.

The accident is a big dent in Perez’s hopes of a second successive victory in Monaco, with the Mexican rider now set to start Sunday’s Grand Prix.
