Nancy Pelosi’s husband could be charged with a hit-and-run that caused “great harm.”

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy PelosiAccording to local authorities, Richards’ husband was involved in a hit-and-run accident in California’s wine country on Friday that left a car “severely damaged.” The 86-year-old could face misdemeanor charges because of the collision.

Paul Pelosi was driving his brown convertible in Yountville, a small town in the heart of wine country in Napa County, when he hit a legally parked car on the side of the road, stopped briefly and then drove away, the Napa County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release Saturday. No injuries were reported.

A witness saw the collision and called 911. Shortly thereafter, sheriff’s deputies found Paul Pelosi on a nearby road about a quarter mile away with heavy damage to the front of his car. The octogenarian told officers he knew he hit something but didn’t know when or what caused the damage to his car.

According to the statement, Paul Pelosi had no alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. The sheriff’s department referred Paul Pelosi to the California Department of Motor Vehicles to begin a process to determine whether he can continue driving – a process officials said is “common” for older drivers.

He was not arrested, and since no one was physically injured, the Sheriff’s Department is recommending a misdemeanor charge that Paul Pelosi fled the scene of the accident.

An employee for Congresswoman Pelosi did not respond to an email request for comment Saturday afternoon.

Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty in 2022 for misdemeanor driving under the influence in Napa County. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years probation – although he served only two days in jail and was given good behavior for two more days, leaving only one day to attend a work program at the local courthouse.

As part of his probation, Paul Pelosi was also required to take a three-month drunk driving course and install an ignition interlock device that requires the driver to provide a breath sample to prove sobriety before the engine starts. He was also ordered to pay victim restitution of approximately $5,000 for medical bills and lost wages and a fine of nearly $2,000.

Shortly after that crash Paul Pelosi was attacked and severely beaten with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home in late 2022.
