NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell resigns over ‘inappropriate relationship’



Jeff sleevethe CEO of NBCUniversal and one of the media industry’s most respected executives, is leaving the company following an investigation into improper conduct by its parent company Komcast announced Sunday.

In a brief statement, Shell said Sunday was his last day after what he called “an inappropriate relationship with a woman at the company”.

“I’m truly sorry to have let down my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal, they are the most talented people in the business and it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them over the past 19 years,” said Shell, the CEO of NBCUniversal since January 2020.

He joins a number of media industry executives who have resigned from posts over inappropriate relationships in recent years, including others at NBCUniversal. Three years ago vice chairman of NBCUniversal Ron Meiera Hollywood star, left the company after revealing he had received blackmail threats after settling with a woman he was having an affair with.

And last year jeff sugar abruptly resigned as CNN’s president while acknowledging a consensual relationship with another network executive — an involvement that surfaced during an investigation into now-fired anchor Chris Cuomo.

Former CBS boss Les Moonves resigned in September 2018, just hours after reports of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

As CEO of NBCUniversal, Shell oversaw the company’s portfolio of news and entertainment television networks, a world-class motion picture company, major television and sports production operations and a leading television network group, according to the company’s website. He also oversaw the company’s theme parks and an ad-supported premium streaming service.

Previously, Shell was chairman of NBCUniversal Film and Entertainment. In this role, he oversaw the content creation, programming and distribution engines behind NBCUniversal’s film and network television businesses, including NBC Entertainment, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG), Telemundo and NBCUniversal International.

Comcast hasn’t said who will succeed Shell.
