The new Cabinet for Charnwood Council has been announced.
Council leader Jewel Miah confirmed the cabinet after it was elected on Monday night (May 22).
Cllr Miah said: “I am delighted to announce my new Cabinet and look forward to working with them and leading the Council forward.
“We have some very talented people with a wide range of professional experience who will add a lot to the strategic direction of the Council. We are excited about the future of Charnwood.”
The Titular Members of the Cabinet and their portfolios are:
- Cllr Jewel Miah – Leader with responsibility for corporate strategy and oversight, strategic relationships, communications, corporate performance, emergency planning, equalities; and diversity and inclusion
- Cllr Colin Hamilton – Deputy Leader and Senior Fellow for Public and Private Sector Housing with responsibility for repairs and investments; lease management; assisted living; income and income management; renters and Lifeline; refugee resettlement; Accommodation options; assignments and leases; housing needs; empty houses; HMO licenses; and training and development (members and officers)
- Cllr Ian Ashcroft – Senior Member Finance, Client & Support Services, Revenue & Profit with responsibility for the capital and income budgets and the Medium Term Financial Strategy; income and benefits services; audit and risk; democratic services; legal services, HR, election services; ICS and the customer experience
- Cllr Kanchan Jadeja – Senior Planning Member with responsibility in the control of the development; conservation and landscape; building control and Section 106 agreements
- Cllr Louise Jones – Senior Fellow for Climate Action, Net Zero and Property and Assets with responsibility in climate action and net zero and property and assets
- Cllr Jennifer Tillotson – Senior Fellow for Economic Development, Regeneration and Town Centers responsible for economic development strategy and policy; the business area; Loughborough Town Agreement; UK Shared Prosperity Fund; markets and events; city center management; Public cleanings; and tourism and the visitor economy
- Cllr Anne Gray Senior Fellow for Waste, Open Space and Leisure Facilities with responsibility for the waste strategy and services; open spaces strategy; engineering and grounds maintenance; leisure centers; Loughborough Town Hall; and the Charnwood Museum.
- Cllr Elizabeth Blackshaw – Senior Member of Communities and Neighborhoods with responsibility for community safety and neighborhood development; community grants; safeguard; closed TV circuit; sport and active recreation; regulatory services; parking lot; Enviromental health; street management and licenses
The Council operates a Leader and Cabinet model, which means that most important decisions are made by the Cabinet. The first meeting of the new Cabinet is Thursday, June 1.
