In recent days, business owners and taxpayers have received notice from their local authorities about the new ‘Increased Cost of Business’ 2024 grant.
The grant is part of the rollout of the 2024 budget package worth €257 million to help small and medium-sized fee-paying businesses with one of their ongoing costs, which are fees.
Eligible businesses will receive a one-off grant payment the amount of which will be based on the value of the 2023 business rates bill.
To be eligible, businesses must operate commercially, pay current rates, and the applicant must be in compliance with taxes.
Any business with commercial rates and invoices exceeding €30,000 will not be eligible for this help.
This one-off government grant is particularly aimed at small businesses with a tariff bill of less than €10,000; in that case a successful application will result in a grant of 50% of your annual bill, an annual fee bill of between €20,000 and €30,000 can receive €5,000. .
Sligo Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan urges taxpayers to contact their local authority if they have any specific queries, but should be aware of the May 1 deadline.
“I have received many communications from business owners about rising costs over the past year due to energy bills, employment and wages, along with other financial burdens.
“I want to warmly welcome this grant initiative which will provide significant relief of up to €5,000 for many and will work to ensure the Government considers further measures to ease the burden around the cost of doing business,” concluded MP Feighan.
